A most interesting letter from Erwin Paddock, son of Clarence Paddock. He writes me that his older daughter is this year an exchange student in southern India; in the spring the younger daughter goes to Fneland on a similar assignment. Erwin is a C.P.A. with a large national concern and neither wishes nor expects to retire for a few more years. He remarks that he "accepts with mixed emotions the coeducation decision, recognizing progress."

Roland Eaton, son of 'Pa' Eaton, tells me that his daughter Ethel received her master's degree from Brown last June. She received all kinds of prizes and awards and Phi Beta Kappa. For the past two summers she has been on an archaeology 'dig' in Itlay and at present is working for her Ph.D. at Brown: Roland has 11 grandchildren and continues to enjoy a congenial and pleasant retirement on his Charlottesville farm.

In this very political year Bob Jackson has expressed some thoughts on the current political scene. He writes in part, "I am convinced our system of government must be revised. A democratic form of government has never succeeded for long unless it was based on an informed electorate. It is not the present administration alone which indulges in deception; all recent administrations have indulged in the practice." Bob goes on to suggest and feels very strongly that vice presidential candidates should be nominated and elected by popular vote.
