Seven '44 fathers snow-shoed their way to Hanover for a snowy-blowy Freshman Fathers Weekend February 3-5; Art Allen, son Bob, Ross Higier and Tom, Bob Hyde and Dave, Paul Jones and Cameron, Dick Mayberry and Rick, Bruce Thomson and Tommy, and Fritz Hier and Rob.

Art Allen recently made the big move of selling out his business in Dedham and buying an old inn and motel unit in South Orleans, Mass., out on the Cape. Hillbourne House, it's called, and just a wink from the ocean. "It's great," Art said, "doing our own thing and for us, not someone else."

Ross Higier, our glove man in Gloversville, N. Y., wasn't fazed by the swirling wind and snow: Gloversville is in a nice little snow belt of its own. Ross also brought his wife Dorene along.

Bob Hyde was a bit late getting up from N. J., but not because of the storm. He had a forestry meeting in New Haven.

Paul Jones left the surging surf at Cohasset and headed north to Hanover with his ever-present trade-mark—a long wool scarf around his neck.

Dick Mayberry slogged it over and back from Rochester, with a detour to Portland on the way home to see his mother—snow all the way.

And then there was Bruce Thomson, who wisely left his Panama hat behind in Lynchburg, Va., in favor of Father John's drop-seat longjohns. He survived Hanover, but barely his return home. The storm had hit there, too, and Bruce said there were six foot drifts in some parts of Virginia; his sister's family was snowbound and without electricity for three days.

Fritz Hier, he lives in the place and likes it. He wore two hats that particular weekend, first as coordinator of the Freshman Fathers program, and second with a freshman son.

Dave & Patti Eckels kindly hosted the '44 group for a most pleasant couple of hours Saturday afternoon. So pleasant, in fact, that several almost missed the basketball game that evening.

And then there was the second annual Alumni Ski Weekend, March 3-5, and a bit of the drama there, too, on the weather front. Hasn't been much of a winter for snow, but there was a six inch replenishment the weekend prior. Then, would you believe temperatures in the sixties and a pelting rain on Thursday. Sleet that night blessedly turned to snow on Friday and the skiers arrived on schedule. Representing '44: Warren & Nancy Leopold and two kids, Freeport, L. I.; Mrs. Betty Reilly, Greenwich (widow of Fran); and Red &Joan Peabody, over foom Portland, Me. The Dick Pleasants had to cancel when flu struck.

Moving to Chicago, we find that RalphBogan just won't stay put. He has just been moved up from manager of the Chicago office of W. E. Hutton & Co. to general partner of that firm. Ralph joined Hutton in 1970 after a number of years with Dominick & Dominick. Established in 1886, W. E. Hutton has 38 offices in the U. S. and overseas and a net worth and subordinated capital in excess of 22 million; total assets are more than $137,000,000. Brother, (Ralph, that is) can you spare a dime...

Walking into my office one day was Dan Donovan (investment banking) looking disgustingly tanned and healthy... just back from ten days with wife Arline in barbados, and Hanover to speak to Tuck students and have daughter Mary Ellen interviewed for next fall's freshman class, Or maybe the order there should be Mary Ellen's interview and then the Tuck talk.

We've got a couple of investment fellows for you this month. First, that was Mickey Smith looking out from a two-column, four-inch photo in the financial section of the February 21 NYTimes. It was a question-and-answer interview with one of the Times' top financial writers and in substance Mickey's long-run view of investments and the stock market is good.

I'm not sure whether Joe Garry's Roaring Brook Dude Ranch on Lake George is frozen over in winter or what, but Joe called me for a long chat on the state of affairs in Hanover. He was waiting for another call from South America with details on where and when he was to show up for his daughter's wedding. "It better not be too high up in the Andes," said Joe. “I'm just off three weeks on my derriere after wrenching a leg helping push a neighbor's car out of a snowbank."

The high and the mighty: Whit wells has been elected vice president of the Chesire County (Keene, N. H.) Dartmouth Club. Whit is president-treasurer of the Monadnock Fuel Co. in Keene. And BobColwell has been elected president of the Interservice Club Council of New Roehelle—"A titular job if you ever saw one," he says. "We meet once a year."

A note from Dick Ostberg out Wisconsin way indicates that he has resigned amicably from Kimberly-Clark because "of a fundamental disagreement between the president of the company and myself on how labor relations should be conducted." He says the resumes are out and the search for a similar job or "a completely new life style" is on.

Steve Horner appears to have changed employers: he is now listed with Melvin P. Windsor Co., general contractors, in Springfield, N. J. Bob O'Keefe, in another Springfield, this one Illinois, has moved over from general manager. Weaver Division, Walter Kidde & Co., to vice president, Dura Corp., Walter Kidde & Co.

In 1970 Bob Olin, in Denver, became president of Olin & Hart, Inc., manufacturers representatives. Same year, Fred Page got a new title with Equitable Life Insurance Society in Hamden, Conn., namely: District Manager.

if you're , told to tell it to the judge in Vermont these days, you'll likely be telling it to Lynn Underwood, just appointed by the governor as a Superior Judge, one of the state's five such. When I called Middlebury March 6 to tender congratulations, I was told that he was in Burlington, his first day on the bench.

And that's it. Blessings.
