JUNE 1972

At Saturday's luncheon, final formal event of Class Officers Weekend, the Class of 1931 was honored as Dartmouth's Class of the Year. College Secretary J. Michael McGean '49 presented Class President John W. Cogswell with the symbolic gavel inscribed "in recognition of an outstanding program through the superior organization of class interest and participation to the benefit of the College and the cause of higher education."

The Class was cited for a number of areas of superlative performance: a 40-year reunion attendance which won two cups, a "first" in topping $100,000 in Alumni Fund contributions for a single year with its 1971 Reunion Giving Campaign, 89% participation in that campaign, new class record for percentage of members paying dues, high attendance at executive committee meetings and the fall reunion, an active widows program, a $500 gift to the Lebanon Vocational Training Center to aid Upper Valley young people, the gift of a plaque for Red Rolfe '31 Field, a well-read newsletter, and an excellent Class Notes column.

The Classes of 1923, 1926, 1936, 1942, 1950, 1955, and 1964 received honorable mention.
