The honor of Class Secretary of the Year was accorded Russell Conwell Dilkes '51 at the gathering of class officers in Hanover May 5. He was cited as follows:
Russell Conwell Dilks, self-proclaimed bachelor, you continue unabashed your 26 year romance with the lady of your choice, Dartmouth. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate, you did have a brief flirtation with Yale, resulting in a law degree in 1954.
Secretary of your Class since 1961, you have served the College in many other ways. You have been a member of the Alumni Council and the Class Secretaries Association, president of the Club Officers Association, and secretary and president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Philadelphia.
However, your affair with Dartmouth has not interfered with your many contributions to the Boy Scouts of America, and the Yale Law School and Phi Beta Kappa Associations.
Beginning early as a scribe, you were a member of the Daily Dartmouth's staff, editor of the Yale Law Review, and have been the author of articles in several journals.
The monthly columns you compile for your classmates are a colorful kaleidoscope of their doings, colorfully written, proof of your experience; but further your notes mirror the essence of the College, concern with the changing world and concern that Dartmouth grows as needed. And, Class Secretary of the Year, as a beater of deadlines you are not to be beaten.
