The joint dinner of the Alumni Council and Trustees, with wives, College officers, faculty, and undergraduates on January 12 was the occasion for conferring the Council's highest honor, the Dartmouth Alumni Award, on Morrison G. Tucker '32 of Oklahoma City. Council President Vincent W. Jones '52 cited Tucker for his many years of Dartmouth and community service, as follows:
Morrison Graham Tucker '32
Tuck, you always have been a man-in-motion, pulsing through life with the grace and rhythm of the stellar dancer and figure skater that you are. You have done it, too, with such a "snap, crackle, and pop" that a few have guessed you to be some kin of the Last of the Red Hot Mammas. However, those who have heard your super-monotonic renditions of the old familiar melodies are certain that no descendant of Sophie would inherit so little tune-carrying ability.
Whether inherited or acquired, you have demonstrated an outstanding flair for finance for forty years, first with the Federal Government, then as fiscal adviser to the Philippines, and as a financial manager for the Rockefeller family in Venezuela. From 'fifty-one until a few years ago you were with the Liberty National Bank and Trust Company, leaving that bank as Chairman of the Executive Committee to found the firm of Morrison G. Tucker & Company, under which you own or control four or five financial institutions in the area. Also, you are director of the Liberty Bank, a life insurance company, an oil company, an oil drilling company, and a science foundation. All who are going to Oklahoma are forewarned to "see Tuck first for financing."
Dartmouth has been fortunate to count you among her assets of inestimable worth. You worked on enrollment, served as area chairman for the Third Century Fund, president of the Dartmouth Club of Western Oklahoma, on the executive committee for the Dartmouth Bicentennial Program, on the Alumni Council for three years, and as its president in 1965-66. In addition you have worked for your community in various capacities.
In summary, Tuck, you "do good by stealth and blush to find fame" and so now, in lasting appreciation of your dedication to the College, it is our honor to give you the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
