The TV set is on 'cause at the moment this is being written, "Peace" is being signed in Paris. I honestly wonder in what condition we'll find ourselves and Indonesia when you ultimately read this column sometime in March.
A brief note from Jack Fitzgerald reports that his son Jackie is now a member of the Massachusetts bar - continuing a great family tradition. Many months ago we also heard from Joe Burnett that his son Jeff had returned from destroyer duty off Vietnam. In' addition his firm had relocated into a new plant in Lexington, Mass. and that he was still playing the trumpet in his spare time. Another shortie from LloydBlanchard keeps us posted on his son Kevin, who'll be graduating from Hanover momentarily and daughter Heather who'll be doing likewise from Northfield.
Early in the winter we received a nice newsy epistle from Bob Raclin in Chicago part of which I'll share with you to supplement an "official release which appeared here last month, "My son Jonathan is with White Weld as an institutional salesman, having finished his stint in the Marine Corps two years ago. He resides in Evanston with his wife and baby daughter, Stacey. Our oldest daughter, Nannette, is married to a career Arm) officer named Bob Pope, who is stationed outside of Frankfurt. They, too, have a baby girl named Curran, born last August. Our daughter Jeanie is in personnel work and lives in New York City. Our young son Grier is a sophomore at St. Lawrence University.
"As for Jean, she is still doing her skeet shooting all over the country and this year she won her second Illinois Women's Skeet Shooting championship- She has been on the All-American Team for the last five years and keeps blowing holes in the sky. As for myself, I am a divisional president of Paine Webber and have responsibility for our offices in Wisc III Ind.. and Mich I go to Europe somewhat less frequently but try to do it several times a year. lam also a director of Paine Webber so I spend about one out of every ten days in New York. In recent times I have been elected a trustee of Clarke College, which is a girl's school in Dubuque, lowa, with some 3,000 students and, more recently, elected a trustee of Illinois Institute of Technology. I see a lot of Dick Babcock, both at golf and at shooting, and plan to go down goose shooting with him and Bill Rothermel in December."
Another interesting letter from Les Nichols reads in part, "was divorced in 1968 and enjoying happy days as a bachelor - that is until I met Peggy Tabor of Louisville about a year ago. We were married here on August 26 and took off on a European honeymoon jaunt that included 23 Tenth Armored Division Association members whom 1 took along as a battlefield Tour Guide. (This trip had been already planned in 1970.) I see Pres Joyes and Dave Dance here on occasion."
Two brief notes from Bob Weil and Herb Landsman merely keep us posted that they're still active in Montgomery, Ala. and Cincinnati respectively.
As I started to say in the first sentence, Peace is in the air and simultaneously the North Eastern Seaboard has had it's first real taste of winter. It. is unbelievable, but true, that the first snow of the year fell in New York on January 30, an all-time record for lateness, and that the previous entire week we had temperatures in the mid-50's. As you read this, I will assume that spring skiing is at it's best, be it in New England or the Rockies and that those of us not in the midst of the snow-belt will be thinking in terms of digging up our gardens (it's pretty tough for me in New York City) and preparing for the beautiful spring that lies ahead.
