The annual Christmas luncheon of Dartmouth C.N.Y. was launched at a changed Wheelock Tavern . . . amid wives and other females as Martha Johnson '76 addressed the question, "What's it like to be a girl at Dartmouth?" Her dad Spencer Johnson '45, our enrollment chairman this year, justifiably beamed as Martha convinced even the hold-outs that women are a real addition to the Big Green scene.

After cocktails and lunch, our emcee and vice president Dr. Bill Burke '56 made it an all Johnson show by introducing Steve Johnson '76 (no relation) who spoke to the 57 candidates and their dads about his Dartmouth experience, applying engineering principles to today's problems, in Engineering 21.

The high point of our luncheon, however, came when Jay Evans '49, resplendent in his Olympic parade dress uniform of red, white, and blue, held everyone spellbound with his experiences and film as coach of the U.S. Olympic White Water Team. Jay effectively transported us all to the Italian Alps where we thrilled in watching the U.S. Team, including four "Dartmouths" and Jay's own son Eric in preparation for Munich.

Everyone complimented Fran Lion '50, this year's president, on one of the "best evers."

Dartmouth alumni in Alaska gathered'at the home of Lowell Thomas Jr. '46 (front left) inAnchorage to enjoy a social get-together and hear Trustee David P. Smith '35 of San Francisco talk about College developments. It was a "first."
