The summer months are now far behind us, but there were some wonderful memories created by club events that will be talked about for seasons to come. One of the more notable events was one organized by the Dartmouth Club of Eastern New York. Club president Sarah Metzgar Boggess ’86 contacted other clubs throughout the Northeast about gathering for a lunch and concert in July at Tanglewood in Massachusetts. This music venue has been the summer home of the celebrated Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1937. Approximately 30 alumni attended and there was representation from the following clubs: Dartmouth Club of Central Massachusetts, Dartmouth Club of the Pioneer Valley, Dartmouth Club of Rhode Island, Dartmouth Club of Eastern New York, Dartmouth Club of Hartford and Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston. Boggess arranged a casual lunch in the formal gardens at Tanglewood and then the group enjoyed a Boston Symphony Orchestra concert that featured violinist Joshua Bell. This multi-club event was a success and Boggess commented that, “Plans are under way for an expanded event in 2012.” This is sure to be an annual event with the beautiful venue and outstanding entertainment. Mark your calendars so that you can attend next year if you are in the area.

We will stay in the Northeast for the next update, which is from the Dartmouth Club of Central Massachusetts. Lance Lazar ’86 organized the annual freshmen send-off picnic at Green Hill Park in Worcester with assistance from Tom Bodine ’75. About 25 people gathered including alumni, three incoming freshmen and family members for the picnic under the pavilion. Homemade goodies disappeared quickly and the incoming freshmen expressed their excitement about and anticipation of heading to Hanover. Discussion of the upcoming freshmen DOC trips was a hot topic as the freshmen spoke about their impending trip and the alumni shared some of their memorable DOC trip moments.

There are many Dartmouth alumni club events going on throughout the world with a great deal of volunteer hours being put in by devoted alumni.
