The onset of spring brings seasonal joys and a grouch; I believe you may help provide the antidote for the latter:

Never have I been thrown with such a faceless, motionless crowd - ten months at this scissorsruler-pastepot-typewriter-eraser perch and not a single photo, drawing, print, lithograph, drypoint, intaglio or even an example of finger painting from the membership has reached here.

Weddings? Trips? New homes? Family holidays? Kudos? Alumni gatherings? (I have unimpeachable evidence of such at Yale last fall, but only on the basis of a vivid, philoprogenitive pea.) Based on a glaring lack of illustrations, it appears nothing has happened at all.

Old timers in new sports garb? Shiny new presidents and board chairmen? Large persons at the desk? The wheel? The power mower? The flagon? The helm? The icebox? Dandled grandchildren? I couldn't give you a clew. Such a parlous state of affairs is bound to bring on a reaction:

ANNOUNCING THE FIRST CLASS OF '41 PHOTO CONTEST OFFERING PRIZES, CHALLENGES & RECOGNITION CALCULATED TO EDIFY, UPLIFT AND ENTERTAIN A WIDE READERSHIP

Particulars: Send me any photos or other art work pertaining to you, your family, your work, your avocations, and your unscheduled activities. All material will be judged by a non-alumni panel. Everything sent will be returned, but items will be retained with the intention of presenting a number of them over a considerable period of time. Black and white photos are preferred, but sharp color prints may be sent (sorry, no color slides or transparencies, but prints can be made up from same).

Prizes: The first prize is a copy of "The New England Sampler." a book collecting stories and pictures of this region. The next 20 will receive a copy of the current "New England Guide" magazine. (All entrants will get free applications to sit in the class section at football games-plus free copies of the class newsletter.)

Deadline: please send material by June 15, 1973.

More than 500 members are under high suspicion of harboring divers photos and other pertinent illustrations — I am harboring sundry news but, under the circumstances described, now it's my turn to hold out. Do you recall the 25th Reunion book? It had some grand pictures and let that kind of content stand as your genial guide.
