DUES DUE!
The 35th Reunion dates as advised by DutchCotton, chairman, are Monday, June 13 - Wednesday, June 15, 1977. '42, '43, and '37 will also gather on those dates.
The Hartford Courant Sunday magazine calls Robb Barstow "Connecticut's Whale Man," in light of his lengthy and vigorous campaign inveigling the Nutmeg Legislature to adopt the critter as the state's official animal. Follow-up activities include construction of a 60-foot, life-size concrete whale at the Children's Museum, Hartford (including an open jaw, the better for visitors to walk through); and further efforts to prevent the animal's extinction around the world. Described in the magazine piece as "tall, lean, bearded . . . like Jonah, Jacques Cousteau and Capt. Ahab, he has been smitten with an overwhelming affection for whales, the bigger the better." Living in Wethersfield, Robb has a doctorate in education and has been an officer of the Connecticut Education Association. (Thanks to Rich Fisher for the clip.)
Some mail, in the last few months has asked for titles of books bought in the Memorial Program for deceased classmates. Recent acquisitions are Sculpture by Henri Matisse, Farm Tools Through the Ages, Buddhist Art;Pictorial History of American Labor; a book on Karnak, and another on glacier ice. The list from the College Library shows these as typical of the reference-style works purchased. (Some are obviously books that the Library could not budget except for the program, or could not buy as early as desired. The program will be discussed at the '77 Reunion, per motion at a classmates' get-together after the Penn Game.)

"Only going to the Cornell game this fall, as have been too busy," writes Red Taft, who thoughtfully enclosed two prime clips. Via one, Julie Koenig is returning to the ad agency business in New York, opening Julian Koenig, Inc. A talented copywriter who was a founder of the fast-paced PKL Advertising firm in NYC a few years ago, he has several accounts in the stable and is lining up staff. Between agencies, he has been a political ad specialist. Another clip pictured Hank Bjorklund, Brodie and Fran's son, of Princeton and the NY Jets, appearing in a Schlitz TV commercial (Brodie had earlier written "We are fighting the ravages of time somewhat successfully; Hank married a Princeton coed who's getting Ph.D. at Yale; daughter Betsey, a nurse, has been married.")
Frank Munsey, a doctor with a rather peripatetic career, chipped in with a note and dues to Lou Young from Williamsburg, Va., before moving to Pago Pago, as noted above, for two years. Several others checking in with Lou recently: Chuck Frantz, Jack Ripley (had a year's teaching in Germany recently); JackSchwer, as before in Southwick, Ma.; HalNewell (a sagacious savourer in D.C.'s Sans Souci); Walt Winchester; Jack Bowe, who exhorts Lou to come up for a Jersey lunch.
