The new Master of Choate Residence will be Jennifer Lyman, Assistant to the Director of Admissions, the first woman to hold this position previously filled by members of the faculty. Miss Lyman will be a youthful occupant of the Master's Residence, having received her bachelor's degree from Yale in 1972. At Yale she was a counselor to freshman women.
Now that the State of New Hampshire has lowered the age of majority to 18, the Hanover Inn has announced plans to convert the Tavern Room into a pub where students and others can drink beer and wine. Light food and music, probably by a pianist, will help to make the new pub a popular gathering spot.
A special study committee has recommended that the Department of Education be transformed into an interdisciplinary Program of Educational Studies. The report was made to Dean Rieser, who in turn must submit it to the Committee on Instruction for recommendation to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
A second member of the senior class has been awarded a coveted Marshall Scholarship for study in England. Samuel M. Livermore of Sacramento, Calif., has a two-year appointment to study international relations at London School of Economics. Robert A. Ariel of New York City was named earlier. He and Livermore are two of only 30 Marshall Scholars chosen from the entire United States.
