The Alumni Council for 1974-1975
October 1974

THE Dartmouth Alumni Council, founded by Ernest Martin Hopkins in 1913, has long served to represent alumni interest in the welfare of the College.

This body of 60 present members (and hundreds of former members who remain active in alumni affairs) meets biannually (December and June) in Hanover. The Council sponsors numerous programs, including the annual Alumni Fund, and is responsible for the nomination of certain Trustees. (See notice p. 24.) A glance at its committee structure indicates the range of Council activities: Alumni Fund, Public Relations, Academic Affairs, Enrollment and Admissions, Bequest and Estate Planning, Regional Organization, Class Organization, Athletics, Alumni Awards, Nominations.

The majority of Council members are chosen by regional organizations plus various official alumni groups. By electing some members at large (including a faculty and undergraduate representative) the Council itself attempts to assure a diverse membership in terms of age, profession, and geography.

All members of the Council stand ready to discuss College programs and policies, about which they inform themselves at Hanover meetings. Furthermore, they welcome communications from fellow alumni who may wish to raise questions or offer comments which can be transmitted directly to the College. Following is the roster of present members with addresses and phone numbers of the President, Vice President and Secretary. Correspondence with any member can be addressed to the Secretary for forwarding.
