Final figures emerging from the 1974 Alumni Fund indicate a dollar total more than half a million dollars above 1973's record-breaker and a significant reversal of a 17-year trend toward lower alumni participation.
The $3,831,758 final tally surpassed the accelerated - and extraordinarily ambitious - goal by $81,758. The $250,000 challenge gift, made by three anonymous alumni, was more than met under the formula of matching increases of donors who gave $100 or less in 1973 or gifts from those who did not contribute that year.
Perhaps even more encouraging was the rise of two percent in alumni participation, reversing a decline that has averaged one percentage point since 1957. The total number of donors was 21,800, including 19,135 - or 58.4 percent of - alumni.
A full report of the 1974 Fund will appear in the November issue.
