A new course in the Theory and Practiceof Competitive Athletics was inaugurated bythe Department of Physical Education ascollege reopened after the Easter recess. Inoffering the course to juniors and seniors, thedepartment announced a two-fold purpose ofhelping to some degree certain students whoare planning to take up the work of teachercoach, and of showing to the students thevalues that are inherent in such activities,using the experience of these brief courses asa basis for a possible full course in the variousactivities of physical education in the immediate future.
The instructors in the courses are: Baseball, C. M. Tesreau; track and field, H. L. Hillman and H. W. Cohn; lacrosse, T. J. Dent; and tennis, C. L. Gilligan.
Men enrolling in this course will not only have to participate in actual games but will study the history and development of the games, the different coaching theories that are in vogue, and the methods by which competitive athletics may be made a helpful part in the general health program of a school or college.
