Twenty-three loyal '17ers returned on September 27 to Hanover for the annual fall meeting of the Class. The following were present: Ralph and Ethel Sanborn, Barney and Adele Thielscher, Sandy and Tommie Lynch, Bob and Anita Scott, Len and Laurene Reade, Dick and Altha Holbrook, Duke and Dot Howe, Helen Brooks, Lucile Towler, Mary McCulloch, Vic Smith, Roger Stone, Arch Earle, George Allison, George Clark, and Waltman Walters.
The meeting of the executive committee was held at 3 p.m. Bob Boynton, our chairman and president, unfortunately was unable to be present. After recent surgery at Mary Hitchcock Hospital, Bob is recuperating at the Hanover Convalescent Home and would enjoy hearing from classmates. In his absence, your secretary presided, giving his report and hearing gratifying reasurer, class agent and bequest chairman, all of whom are to be commended for their fine work. Arch Earle, Sentry editor, hopes to provide us with five or six issues during the coming year. The group enjoyed a pleasant cocktail and dinner gathering on Friday night in one of the Inn's private dining rooms. Saturday night, Helen Brooks and George Stoddard 'l8, arranged for members of our two classes to join forces in the Drake Room. Arch Earle at the piano and 17's sturdy songsters provided us with nostalgic music which must have sounded unfamiliar to our young guest, Richard Idler. He is Walt Walters' grandnephew and a student at Dartmouth Medical School.
Phil Evans, a regular attendant at our fall meetings had to forego it this year, due to a broken hip. We wish you a speedy recovery, Phil.
You will be interested to know that our classmate Alden Vaughn has moved to Hanover from Kentucky, establishing residence on Lewin Road. He retired recently from his duties as Professor of Classical Languages at Center College.
The Dartmouth Club of Central Vermont held an outdoor gathering at the Norwich University Ski Area on September 4. The affair was arranged by its president, Alden Guild and George Turner, director of public relations at Norwich. Vic Smith represented our class and Jim Young '23 of Barre was there. It is reported that the beer and hamburgers were excellent and that members of the club enjoyed getting reacquainted.
In closing, I regretfully report the passing of the following classmates: Julius F. Kuech of Brattleboro, Vt., Frederick W. Gates of Massillon, Ohio, and Lawrence R. Doty of Swampscott, Mass.
1919 classmates attended the dedication of the new Baker Seminar Room named forCotty Larmon, occupied here by his widow Katherine and Librarian E.C. Lathem.
