By the time you read this, the snow will be deep in Hanover and Christmas and a New Year will be close at hand. At time of writing (Election Day) it's Indian Summer on Long Island, and we're trying to get up the energy to start the annual chore of leaf-raking.

On top of all of his other fantastic activities, prexy Dave Weld has been a tower of strength for this column, furnishing all the news of Princeton and Harvard weekends in Hanover, which your scribe was unable to attend. As always, the Pierces and Kimballs were the hosts to an array of '46s, spouses, and offspring.

Among those participating in the Princeton festivities (only slightly dampened by the grid result) were Frank and Mary Jane Cole, Ham and Nancy Bailey, Jim and Jane Barnet, Robbie and Joanne Smith, Wells and Bobby Fendrich, Jim and Joan von Rohr, Andy and June Murtha, Gene Bokor and daughter Jill (son Bruce had three assists in the 5-0 rout of the Tiger soccer team), Walt and Mary Snickenberger (need we mention what their Tom and Walt were up to that day?), Jack and Jean Whitman (more from the Growler anon), Reg and Nance Pierce, Ralph and Sally Fifield, Dave and Jean Weld, Bob and Jackie Kimball, and Len Wilson.

By now you've all received Jack Whitman's letter of October 14, containing the first description of the GTHES (Greatest ThirtiethHanover's Ever Hanover's Ever Seen!) so you- know that the dates are June 9, 10, and 11, 1975 (that's Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). The program is just about complete and it will be a great assist to the final planning if (unless you've done so) you'll mail your postcard to Jack at once, so that the budget can be set and all supplies obtained. Tentative plans from the College (subject to final head counts) are to have '46 occupying Russell Sage and Hitchcock, the great location at the top of Tuck Mall.

A delightful letter from Nancy Van Orden(Lou is, as usual, too busy with the abrasives division of Michigan General or working for the Rhode Island G.0.P.) reports the marriage of daughter Deborah to William Scott Smith of Portland, Ore. on August 31. Daughter Katharine (who is probably 1946's Class Baby) and her husband John Carroll have produced Lou and Nancy's second granddaughter; the first was born at Mary Hitchcock in 1972. The Van Ordens have been regulars at Hanover foot- ball games, and we look forward to seeing them at the GTHES.

On Harvard weekend, October 26, over 120 people showed up at Kimball's; Bob and Jackie had such a ball that they're already making plans for a repeat on October 11, 1975 for the Penn game (Pierce's are also lined up for this). It was a gorgeous day, and the tent and the porch vibrated to the biggest non-reunion gathering in '46 history. At the class executive committee meeting. Treasurer Don Furber brought down the house with the announcements that (a) the College has forgiven the balance of our debt from the 25th Reunion - we're in the clear! and (b) we are solvent, with a reasonable balance in the till! Well done, Furb. College liaison agent Kimball stated that "All is calm," and Jack Whitman reported the above-mentioned mailing, establishing that the GTHES is well under way. (Incidentally, your secretary receives copies of the communications from Dave Orr's office, and the guidance services and cooperation which the College provides for reunions is simply incredible). JimO'Neil will, by the time you read this, have been in touch with you on the Alumni Fund, FrankEttari as bequest chairman is showing results, and, 30th Reunion Giving chairman Bud Scheu has his committee at work. Prexy Weld welcomed new classmate John Peterson, as reported in the last issue.

Any list of those present at the Harvard game is bound to be incomplete, but among the names spotted and reported by Dave (before his handwriting trailed off into moisture) were Jim and Avis Heller, Frank and Pat Ettari, Ralph and Sally Fifield, Jim Wyckoff, Ham and Nancy Bailey, Jack and Susie Underhill, Bob and Dot Clifton, Andy and Winnie Gruninger, Buol and Jane Hinman, Gus and Al Gillaugh, Dick and Jean Scharrer, Jim and Jane Barnet, Nort and Blanche Virgien, Rob and Joanne Smith, Len and Nan Wilson, Jim and Arie Lynch, Bob Hunt, Harvey and Dottie White, Phil and Marge Struhsacker, Stan and Teddy Feldberg, Rog Hammond, John and Lila Steele, Lou and Nancy Van Orden, Bob and Connie Albrecht, Don and Margaret Furber, Kim Jones, George Hilton, Chip Coleman, Jack and Jean Whitman all, Rick Shambroom, Spence and Lois Smith, Reg and Nancy Pierce, Frank and Mary Jane Cole, Bob and Jackie Kimball (as ever) and Gene and Gail Bokor. Any classmates or spouses left out, please drop me a line, and we'll note it next issue.

Thanks to all of you who wrote your news on the back of the class dues slips to Furber (and to Furb for forwarding them) we'll have lots of personal notes next time. Until then, to all '46s, spouses, families, and friends, a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

'46 UP!
