It's really hard to sit down and pick up the secretarial reins so ably handled by our past secretary, Ralph Smith, when one is renewing an old-time friendship with Hanover. Molly and I moved up here three months ago and there is just too much going on in town, Hopkins Center, and with old friends, to dance to the tune of responsibility, but here goes, from your new secretary.

My first thought about our class activities dwells on our performance in this year's Alumni Fund. We are, of course, pleased the Class made and exceeded it's goal for the first time in our existence but are more impressed that it was accomplished on the basis of very broad participating. It's true, we couldn't hold a candle to a couple of classes from the standpoint of total funds raised, and to them we give hearty congratulations, but I think we met our challenge this year the hard way by having so many members the Class increase their gifts so generously. I think it is a positive indication of the growing vitality of our Class and augurs well for the future.

Probably the greatest class news from Hanover itself is that Reg Pierce has thrust himself back into the land of winkin, blinkin, and nod. He wasn't satisfied with being the world's greatest innkeeper so he has joined Stephens & Kirwan, Inc, a local advertising agency, to straighten our marketing efforts in the Upper Valley. Nancy, with all her talents, is standing by the inn. So it's still business as usual for the Pierce's Inn of Etna.

Dick. Hartman has been elected vice president in the real estate investment division of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., Springfield, Mass. Dick joined the company's securities investment division after receiving his degree from Tuck, was named second vice president in 1966, and transferred in 1971 to the real estate investment division. He is a member of the executive committee and chairman of the education committee of the National Association of Real Estate investment Trusts.

After all his successful efforts to insure a great reunion, our past president, Dave Weld and his wife Jean understandably tried to get as far away from Hanover as possible for a brief vacation. Hong Kong was their destination and I'm sure they found it a great change. Thinking of Dave, I'm not certain many of our classmates fully realize the great job he did as our fearless leader during these past few years. No one has worked harder for the Class and I think our growing solidarity as shown by the Alumni Fund is good testimony to the success of his efforts.

Speaking of giving guys, Jud Hannigan, president of International Paper Co., had to scrub his plans to return to Hanover for Reunion to attend a dinner given by the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Jud was the guest of honor and received the annual "Brotherhood Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Human Relations." I suspect this honor was well earned over a long period of years. GrahamBrush Jr. has also tackled a big job as campaign chairman for the United Way of Central New Jersey. Graham lives in Princeton and is director of national research development for Johnson & Johnson. We have another distinguished classmate whom I expect has grabbed a real tiger by the tail. Gene Cafiero stepped into the topmost cage to grapple with the big decisions as presidewnt of Chrysler Corporation. JohnDover who lives in Summit, N.J., also moved a big step up the ladder as vice president of procurement for the American Sugar Division of the Amstar Corporation.

Summer in Hanover brings Alumni College and '46 was well represented. Dr. Fred Eadie and Rita from Norwich, Conn., and GeorgeRein and Lily Ann from Atlanta were on for this interesting and pleasant experience.
