As you read this in December, cast your thoughts back to late October and November when an unseasonable warm spell was prolonging the tennis season and befuddling Halloween spirits. Good old New England weather!

Some cards from classmates have warmed my spirits, too.

From Castine, Me., Philip Booth writes that he is on sabbatical from Syracuse University, far Downeast trying to finish his fifth book and, at the same time, winterize an old family house ... "And plant spruce on a shore and cut birch on a woodlot."

Dr. Line Cain has been appointed chief of the Department of Radiology at The Waltham Hospital, Waltham, Mass., where he has been practicing for 15 years. The Cains and their five children live in Weston, Mass., and travel frequently to their ski house near Waterville Valley, N.H.

Ben Brewster was one of those who enjoyed the sun at the Harvard game, if not the score or the undergraduate cheers (?) A resident of Plymouth, Mass., Ben is still vice president of Colonial Brass Co., making cast name plates in Middleboro. His chief hobbies: catboating during the summer and waiting for summer during the winter.

Somehow we never received word that BobBarnum had undergone open heart surgery. But from Marietta, Ga., comes the good news that Bob is doing great and, according to the missus, still very gung ho on the Big Green. The Barnums moved from Somerset, N.J., back in June. Place of employment: Western Electric.

Bruce Mather has been promoted to director of training at American Telephone and Telegraph's customer services department. Bruce joined the company in 1951 and before his promotion was general commercial supervisor for New England Telephone. As reported a couple of months ago, the Mathers live in Westwood, Mass., and have sparkled in amateur theaterical productions.

If all goes as expected, Capt. Manny Benero should be in the process of returning with his family to the States after a tour of duty with the Navy in Uruguay. In a letter to Alan Epstein a few months back, Manny wrote: "This has been a genuinely interesting tour. ... A definite plus factor has been the acquired ability of the two boys of mine to speak Spanish. If we can perpetuate this, we will really have won for them a decided advantage."

As usual, our class treasurer Norm Fink has been in demand as a speaker and panelist at seminars on tax and financial matters. He participated in the 14th annual Tax Conference sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania Public Finance Center in October. Last month he was one of the instructors for Encore '74, a four-week postgraduate course offered senior alumni and friends of the University of Pennsylvania. The Finks have a new home address, by the way: 533 Wain Road, Glenside, Pa. 19038.

At last report, Norm reported dues coming in well. Among notes sent along with payments was a message from George Gerrish that all is well in D.C. and Kensington, Md.; a note from Tom Harrington that the past year went splendidly and word from Bob Nelson that daughter Linda was married last April. Oldest son Bud is a senior majoring in forestry at the University of Massachusetts.

Reluctantly, I have to report that neighbors Ted and Gail Clark have decided to move to Pinehurst, N.C., where he will begin private psychiatric practice and be working out of the Sand Hills Mental Health Center. He will set up alcohol programs in the state of North Carolina. Although his golf swing doesn't need all that improving, year-round play should sharpen his game.

An exciting project looms for next summer Hanover Revisited or a mini '47 reunion. If you haven't heard about it yet, you will.
