The March issue of the DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE, bless its soul, offered a bonus tidbit above and beyond the usual quota of interesting articles and pictures. For, as all '47s who read the Vox column (Page 72) now know, we have a perfect candidate for the position of class secretary - a writer of wit, intelligence, and vivacity in the person of Dick Sbribman.
If any of you missed his piece - "A Father Reflects on a Son's Reflections" - go back and look it up. We know now that son David has come by his reputation as Dartmouth's foremost" undergraduate writer honestly. Be warned, Richard. Your name will be submitted as a candidate for Class correspondent at the next gathering of the leadership.
But then we all know the Class abounds in talent. Alan Hall, for instance, was one of the stars in a production of Agatha Christie's TenLittle Indians that had a most successful run of two nights in Concord, N.H., and then by popular demand "went on the road" for a one-night stand in the Palace Theater in Manchester. They say Alan's death scene will be long remembered by those who saw it. His son, Ben, 10, captured some of the performance on movie film and perhaps could be persuaded at a future date to give us all a look. Warren Hulser's capable direction assured the success of the play.
Then, at the end of March, Viking Press published a new book of poems by Philip Booth, entitled Available Light, which Eugene McCarthy says "gives us a deeper and purer Philip Booth." Maxine Kumin wrote: "This is Philip Booth's strongest and most versatile collection to date. Stunning poems." The poet, as I'm sure almost everyone knows, teaches in the creative writing program at Syracuse University and when not teaching lives in Maine.

The presidential primaries may be about over by the time this appears, but Walt Peterson, former governor and now college president, devoted his talents back in February to being the official New Hampshire host and guide for President Ford when he campaigned successfully in that state's primary. This, of course, because Gov. Meldrim Thomson was a supporter of Ronald Reagan. To show their appreciation, the Fords invited Walt to a small dinner party the day after the victory. Our classmate found the First Family to be gracious and charming.
Another event of February - the devastating earthquakes in Guatemala involved another classmate, Bob Dorian, who helped locate and verify the safety of the daughter of a Pennsylvania attorney. Our Class treasurer, Norm Fink, heard of the family's concern and contacted Bob who came through with the true Dartmouth spirit and was able to assure the parents that their daughter had escaped injury. The Dorians also were fortunate and escaped serious harm in their adopted land.
Bill Reeve reports that he, Kay and the girls (Audrey, 21, Sandy, 18, and Katie, 7) all are well. The Reeves live in Old Tappen, N.J., and Bill has worked for Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. in New York City since 1973. After overcoming a mild attack of "old age" a short time ago, Bill now probably is engaged in his favorite spare time activity - racing his sailboat on the Hudson River with his all-girl crew.
