Well, it finally happened - a class secretary's nightmare - I forgot to send in my notes for the last issue. After meeting deadlines' for 36 years, even when the Navy moved me around during World War II, you'd think I'd remember. And I would have if the gasoline shortage had not suddenly worsened. To get the picture, imagine yourself trying to calm down a couple of hundred service station and commercial accounts who are worried about being able to stay in business.

The Class Directory, beautifully printed and bound, was delivered to all classmates and widows in mid-November. Perhaps we should say "almost all" because the address labels got knocked off five books and the post office dutifully returned them to me. Al Lathrop andBud Smith read about this in the '28 Campaigner and quickly received replacements. Hope the other three guys or gals will write me a note. For Elliott Donnelley, who suggested and produced the book and paid all the bills, a load Wah Hoo Wah! A fitting tribute to the directory (and Elliott's expertise) came to me from President Kemeny who wrote "It is the handsomest I have ever seen."

John Norton's son, John E. Norton II. is a member of the freshman class at Dartmouth and Ken Cuddeback's son, Kenneth M., is a senior.

Bill Treanor retired in 1972 after spending his entire career as an attorney with Union Carbide Corp. in New York City. Apparently playing golf on Hilton Head Island, S.C., wasn't enough to occupy his time so he has accepted a position at the Bank of Beaufort, Coligny Circle, Hilton Head Island.

Bring your directory up to date by writing in Okie O'Keeffe's winter address: 123 Silver Moss Drive, Vero Beach, Fla. And change Hal Moody's address from South Dartmouth, Mass., to c/o Wallace Bali, 168 Conway St., Greenfield, Mass. Jim Hunter has sold his lumber and transportation companies in Elmira-his new address is his home: 650 Hoffman St., Elmira, N.Y.

The latest news from sunny La Jolla, Cal., is from Jack Rose: "I'm now sporting a brand new dacron artery on the left side of my neck-replacing a beat-up old job that was about 95% clogged up. If I follow .the low cholestrol, low caloric, non-fat, no roughage and no cigarette regimen (plus two miles a day walking) all should be well."

Skip and Beryl Drayton went to Oranjestad, Aruba, for the holidays with their daughter, Susan, and her husband, Dr. W. M. Huisman, and their granddaughters, Paula, 2, and Mulene, born November 20.

Ed Collins writes that December 28 was a big day for him - Bill and Mabel Embler came from Schenectady to see him at Wingdale, N.Y., in the morning and brought him five books, and in the afternoon Craig and EleanorHaines drove over from Southbury, Conn.

Ben Heftler's wife, Nell, passed away September 25 after more than a year's illnes.

Doug Pease, a widower since 1968, and Lilla Connel Weston, a widow, have been married. Doug says they had known each other for years and their union was inevitable for a unique reason: Their social security numbers they later found to be consecutive. With the merger, they have nine grandchildren on Cape Cod, in Oklahoma and California. Doug says, "After several minor arthritis operations, including a new knee, last year I changed payroll to pension and now nurse our 1750 house in Duxbury, with frequent short trips including the Gaspe in September and the Yale game in Hanover."

Sherm and Marie Baketel of New Castle, N.H., went to Florida a month earlier than usual this year to avoid the fuel shortage. As usual they used the Auto-Train December I, and then toured the east and west coasts before settling in Englewood for the rest of the winter. Twice" last year Sherm became a step-greatgrandfather. Two of Marie's grandsons sired daughters.

George Davis writes from Glens Falls, N.Y.: “While in Boston I called my freshman roommate. George Hansis and had a fine visit. He is retired from United Fruit. Did this because of the new Directory."

It is with sadness that I report the passing of six classmates who died within a month: FritzTitus, November 14; Clark Blythe, November 19; Bill Whaley, November 26; Alec Kerr, December 1; Dick Rendell, December 4; and John Kerr, December 13. Blyth, Rendell, and Whaley attended our 45th Reunion last June and Clark and Marion Blyth were at our fall football weekend reunion. All were loyal and popular members of our class and will be greatly missed.

After 22 months of roaming through 18 countries in Europe and Africa, Rem and Reliance Kinne have settled down for the winter on Sanibel island, Fla., Post Office Box 283.
