It's wonderful to sit down to write these notes with more material than can be crowded in. Our thanks for the easy job this month go to all those who have returned their questionnaires (60% in the first month, which is phenomenal in any league) and to RedEdgar and Craig Haines for news from Boston. Red says:

"I will try quickly and briefly to give you some news about this area. This week I to a meeting of the Association of Industrial Realtors and was surprised and pleased to find among those present Sonny Middlebrook, who had come up from Hartford for the occasion with some of his colleagues. He was in his usual jolly frame of mind.

"I scouted the scene of the Harvard-Dartmouth game, but did not see any classmates except MonkDavenport, who was viewed from a distance at the picnic grounds outside the stadium. John and EthelNixon joined us after the game.

"At the Cornell game Nixon and I, with our wives, found ourselves seated behind Clark Harrington and his wife. We had a few pleasant remembrances of our last reunion and talked up the twenty-fifth briefly. John Gulian was also in front of us and just as the game started Rem Kinne, who had come over from Albany, appeared. I also was pleasantly surprised to see George Slaws on who came in and located fairly near us. I don t think I had seen George since we graduated. He hasn't changed much that I can see.

"I have recently seen Geof Glendinning, the Lawrence banker, and Dick Sullivan, the Lawrence Librarian, at an affair up their way Dartmouth Night. (Ed. note: He was the guest speaker; Dick was the retiring president, and Geof was elected Secretary that night.)

"Larry Martin's picture has been in the papers this week—a fine, softly lighted portrait by Bachrach, announcing that he had been made the Chief Loaning Officer of the Shawmut Bank. JohnKenerson has just moved into a new house he built in Wellesley which is reported to be very modern and very impressive by a few people I know who have seen it."

Red is Assistant to the President of the Boston & Maine and the Maine Central, travels all over New England, and makes about 20 speeches a year, full of wit and the virtues of New England. His main hobby is skiing and he loyally refrains from vacations in Florida. His daughter Carolyn is a freshman at Middlebury.

Speaking of skiing, what's happened to all our skiers? Out of the 300-odd questionnaires returned, only ten share Red's interest in skiing. They are Charlie Proctor, captain of the winter sports team our senior year, who lives in Yosemite National Park; Bud Osborn in St. Paul; Ken Cuddeback, Jerry Goodwin and Norm Nash in New England; and GeorgeDavis, Sam Magavern, Frank Tindle and JohnScott in New York.

Craig Haines writes,

"Last night at the New England meeting of chairmen of Interviewing Committees we had SkipDrayton, Geof Glendinning and Joe Kelly. In Concord a couple of weeks ago I saw Judge Goodnow, but as he had someone with him and I was with a group, I could only say 'hello.' I can say he looked fine. Jud Moulton has sold his house in Needham and is now with A. T. & T. in their head office in New York.

"At a recent meeting of the New England Council, two of our classmates were prominent, namely Bob Edgar and Lane Dwinell. Incidentally, both of their wives were present and, as you know, are good representatives for us to claim. Rumor has it that Lane may go higher politically in New Harapshire."

Hollis Carlisle was co-chairman of the very successful Red Feather drive in Springfield, Mass. His wife led one of the women's divisions.

Johnny Neary noted on his questionnaire that Mike, "fine broth iv a bye," was born November 8 and weighed 13 pounds by Christmas. Johnny and Ann have two other boys, John, 14, and Chris, 7. Johnny is advertising manager of Reid & Hughes Company's three stores in Salem, Mass., Norwich, Conn., and Lewiston, Maine.

Harry and Alice Jewett of Shoreham, Long Island, announce the birth of Harrison Jr. on December 15 Beef Vernon, after ten years with N. Y. Subways Advertising Cos., has resigned to go with This Week Magazine in New York.. .. Col. Norm Costello, USA, has been transferred to the Office of thief of Army Field Forces, Fort Monroe, Va.

Hank Walker left the Great Lakes Carbon Corp. as of October 31, after more than 15 years' service. He had been executive vicepresident since 1946, when he got out of the Navy. Hank says,

"While the owners would have liked me to stay on, I was in such fundamental disagreement with them on matters of policy that I was no longer happy in my work—and, to my mind, life is too short to put up with constant arguing.

"I'm now in the process of enjoying my first real vacation in 20 years, and Eve and I are making the most of it,—taking off for Florida tomorrow and hope to get to South America. Will start looking around for another job in January—haven't decided whether to get back into the law or seek an executive position."

Chuck Davis is on leave again from Sears Roebuck to the Chicago Ordnance District to serve as a negotiator in the purchase of tanks and automotive equipment, the same job he performed so ably during World War 11. He hasn't been more than 100 miles from the grind, except to Detroit and Washington.

Rupe and Eleanor Thompson are vacationing in Nassau. Last month Rupe made his annual duck hunting trip to Virgina. Peter, a freshman at Dartmouth, played on the freshman soccer team, and David, a junior at Deerfield, played on the varsity soccer team.

Red Jenkins is Directory Staff Supervisor for N. J. Bell Telephone in Newark, chairman of the Board of Adjustment in Far Hills, and also finds time for his hobbies—"flying, hunting, shooting and dry marts." He adds an interesting footnote, "Glad to report excellent health all around and my folks, 83 and 86, just returned from a four months' tour of Europe—so I'm hopeful." Red's older boy Ted is 6's" and weighs 185 at 16. He is a junior at Far Hills High and has won football, basketball and track letters. Barbara, 18, is a senior at Linden Hall, Lititz, Pa.

Representative John McGuire returned just before Christmas from a trip with the Interstate & Foreign. Commerce Committee all through South America (Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Panama, Mexico and Cuba). Before that he was on a newsprint investigation in Canada. Why slight Europe, John? His wife, Dorothy, is operating his insurance business in Wallingford, Conn., during his absences.

A card from Turkey from Wat and EleanorDickerman says, "We got a little further than we bargained for when we went to Germany last summer. In fact we've been to such improbable places as Diyarbekir and Erzurum in eastern Turkey, close to the Russian border. The plane ride from Rome to Athens and Athens to Istanbul on a fine sunny day was alone worth the time and effort we've put in here. But we'll be mighty glad to head for California around the first of the year."

Before closing the travel section, we want to note that our greatest traveler, Bill Harris, is leaving New York February 1 on his annual six-months' trip for new lecture material and color movies, this time through the Mediterranean to the Near East.

Dig out that questionnaire and return it to me now.
