If some Dartmouth traditions have been pummeled in recent years, consider what has happened in New Haven. Mory's has lost its liquor license. In the case "Women vs. Connecticut" that state's supreme court ruled that Mory's did not constitute a private club (it has some 13,000 "members" and a self-perpetuating governing board) and in effect upheld an earlier Connecticut Liquor Commission decision that the 113-year-old tavern practiced sex descrimination.
According to a UPI report, the lawyer for the women, Kathryn Emmett, said, "My clients are very happy with the ruling."
