Twenty-Two's Spring Frolic in Hanover was a most happy weekend. Forty members of the '22 family enjoyed the festivities and the lovely Hanover springtime. There were 180 at the dinner for the Dartmouth Club of the Hanover Area when Bill Bullen, Chairman of the Alumni Council's Alumni Award Committee and President of the Class of 1922. presented the Award to Len Morrissey. And Spenny Smith playing golf with Warren Daniell on the Hanover course got a hole in one. It clearly proves how lucky not only Spenny. but also another classmate can be. Sincere thanks to everyone who came to the weekend and to those who sent greatly, appreciated messages. Steve Kenyon will have a further report on the Frolic in his next Twoter.
For this year's 60th Anniversary Alumni Fund '22 cannot accept anything less than 100 percent participation by all classmates and full achievement of the contributions objective. To assure this accomplishment. Spenny Smith has enlisted the gratifying cooperation of 19 stalwart '22 agents to put the Class over the goal. These dedicated classmates receive nothing but sincere thanks for what they do. And, realizing that they are not asking a tuppence for themselves, please help them as earnestly as they are helping the College. You will probably be hearing from one of them: Gray Bates, Bill Bullen, Herm Carlisle. Mai Clarke, Jack Dana, Warren Daniell, Carroll Dwight, Charlie Earle, Gene Hotchkiss, Max Kenyon, Fran Leland, Rex Malmquist, Wally Mountcastle, Herm Oliver, Buck Perry, Jack Taylor, Charlie Throop and Duke Vos Burgh. Dick Stetson will be director of memorial gifts. Every classmate can belong to this team by giving realistically without further delay. You'll like yourself better when you've done so.
Last year Don Donavanick's obituary appeared in these pages. More recently Frankand Betty Horan received the following letter, in the clear language of the heart, from Don's daughter, Sudsavat:
"Attached to this letter please find three enclosed Memorandum Books which we distributed at the funeral of our beloved father to all guests. (The books are elegantly printed in Thai and total about 150 pages. The only English is a brief life recital and some letters from Dartmouth classmates Max Kenyon, JimMoody, Frank Horan.)
"Thank you very much for your kind sympathetic letter which we are very appreciative for your kind thoughts to him. Even Don passed away, if anything we can do for you in Bangkok, please do not hesitate to let us know. Wishing you and your members in the family very well and all for the best. My very best regards to you and Mrs. Horan. "P.P. My mothers and sisters and brothers."
Ike Miller has placed a set of the books in the Archives of Baker Library.
The Class sorrowfully joins Harry Bruckner, Harry Jr. '60 and his sister Barbara in bereavement. Harry's wife Peg, a true Dartmouth wife and mother, passed away in early April. Elmerand Frances Ardiff, Charlie Earle, Jim and EdieHamilton, and Dr. John and Pat McKoan represented the Class at the services in Trinity Episcopal Church, Marshfield, Mass.
The 1974 football season will have Princeton in Hanover on October 12 and Harvard in Hanover on October 26. For the Princeton weekend. Friday and Saturday, October 11-12, with Monday, October 14 being a holiday, thousands of football fans and foliage lovers will come to the North Country. But enjoy your good fortune and thank Ike Miller because he has reserved a block of rooms for classmates at Howard Johsnson's White River Motel. These accommodations are available to you on a minimum two-night, Friday and Saturday, basis. If you want a room for this very popular weekend, write or call Ike - Gen'l Walter I. Miller, RFD, Box 236, Thetford Center, Vt. 05075, or telephone 802-785-2012. It's your move now and the sooner you make it, the more certain you'll be of having a place to sleep.
On Saturday, October 12, about 11 a.m. '22 will enjoy our customary pre-game luncheon in the Drake Room at Hopkins Center. After the game, about 5:30 p.m. the Class will have our usual post-game dinner, this year in a private dining room at the Hanover Inn.
For the Harvard weekend, October 25-26, Ike is similarly reserving some rooms - on the same minimum two-night basis - at Howard Johnson's and again '22 will have a pre-game luncheon in the Drake Room beginning about 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 26.
After the Harvard game there will not be a '22 class dinner. The reason is that, although attendance at the early season Ivy game in Hanover-Princeton or Pennsylvania - has generally been sizable, experience has indicated that at the later season Hanover games, there has been little or no demand for a post-game class dinner. But, please get your room requests to Ike, come to the pre-game luncheon before Princeton and before Harvard, and come to the post-game dinner after Princeton. And after Harvard, wherever you are let's hope you can gleefully hum "As the Backs Go Tearing By."
Make the '74 summer memorable and happy for yourselves and ail you hold dear, including Dartmouth.
