Again it is our unpleasant task to announce the loss of another classmate. Olly Quayle died suddenly in Hanover on April 14. Oily was an outstanding member of our class and a lifelong strong supporter of Dartmouth. We will miss him a great deal.
John Wyper continues his association with the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company with headquarters in Hartford, Conn., and recently has moved to Stonington. His daughter Barbara is living in Boston and is working in the library at Andover. His son John is about to receive a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Virginia.
Dr. Dick Cardoza has been elected president of the board of directors of the Hitchcock Clinic in Hanover. Dick has had a distinguished career as a cardiac surgeon and teacher at Dartmouth Medical School. He now is a clinical assistant professor of surgery and is active in many medical organizations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the International Cardiovascular and New England Surgical Societies. He is a past director of the New Hampshire Heart Association. Our congratulations to you, Dick.
Some of you may have noted that recently Phil Gordon donned cap and gown in order to represent Dartmouth at the convocation and dedication ceremonies of the new Everett V. Olsen Hall at the Lowell Technological Institute of Massachusetts. He and Muriel continue to live in Lowell, Mass., where he owns and operates some supermarkets and shopping centers. His younger son Peter graduated last year from Washington University Law School and now is associated with Phil in the business. His oldest son Charles is an attorney in New York. Phil did some enrollment work for Dartmouth and was successful in helping to gain admission for at least one of his candidates.
Orin Witten had open heart surgery last year and he has had a remarkably favorable result. He now is able to play tennis and to engage in a variety of other athletics. His oldest daughter Helen was married about a year ago and his son George is in the 7th grade. He and Marion live in West Hartford, Conn.
