1925's Lloyd Brace was honored with the presentation of the Alumni Award April 1 at the 11th annual banquet of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Greater Boston at the Marriott Motor Hotel in Newton. Alumni Council President Stanley Smoyer '34 made the presentation.
The recipient, who spent his entire business career with the First National Bank of Boston, was president and then chairman of the board from 1947 until 1968, when he retired. He has been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a trustee and member of the finance committee of Massachusetts General Hospital, a life member of the corporation of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a member of the investment advisory committee of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and a trustee of the Museum of Science.
A part of the award citation details Lloyd's service to Dartmouth:
You have managed these responsibilities and found time to serve your College in a most outstanding way. You were president of the Athletic Council and a member of the Alumni Council before you became Alumni Trustee in 1951 and Life Trustee in 1956. During these 22 years on the Board of Trustees, six as chairman, you were involved in major decisions concerning graduate programs, coeducation, year-round operations, and programs for the disadvantaged, and provided leadership in the operations of the Investment and Executive Committees. The Third Century Fund Campaign and the search for the 13th president of the College benefited from your counsel in these important years for Dartmouth. It is difficult to understand how a man, serving in most important positions in the world of business and finance, could also accomplish so much for his College.
