There was quite a crowd of 70's at the Harvard game in Hanover and as usual I passed around a yellow legal pad in hopes of getting some news as to how people were spending their time these days. As usual, members of the class had a great deal of fun writing about their activities, exhibiting much creativity, a healthy sense of humor, and an intimate knowledge of matters best left for a forum other than this magazine. I did manage to decipher the following:
Rich Mattern finds himself quite busy with his residency in radiology in New York City and can honestly say that he enjoys it. Few residents seem to be as happy. It appears that one reason for Rich's contentment is he and Adele Tedeschi (Vassar '70) were married in May, 1975. Charley Johnson turned in a similar report of marital bliss. He is living in Pittsburgh where he works for Westinghouse. Charley's wife, a Hitchcock and U. Penn. graduate, is expecting their first child in January.
Sam Crocker says that he is doing "a lot of living" and some engineering, enjoying Avon, Conn., and his job at the Stanley Works where he has been employed since 1971. Andy Lewis is also sticking with his job at the well-known N.Y.C. law firm of Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irvine, finding himself well suited to New York and his law practice.
Bob Stone has what seems to be a fascinating job in what certainly must be considered a field with a future. He and his wife Bev have recently moved to Maryland from Florida. Bob is the marketing-manager for an electric automobile manufacturer with national sales offices in Columbia, Md. Bob provided the rather interesting info that Congress has recently passed legislation furthering the development of such vehicles to the tune of $160 million. EarlMcEvoy said it about as succinctly as it can be put: "Married, working, teaching, and living in Boston - could not be happier." Other similar expressions include Chris Yule's comment, "At home, living peacefully," and a turn of phrase attributed to Star Johnson namely, "Living in ¾ time in Hanover." Also in the Hanover area is Thorne Butler who says he's heating with wood.
Dave Young reports that he is married to a teacher in the Newton, Mass., school system and resides in Boston where he is a corporate officer at the First National Bank of Boston. In the Boston area as well are Steve Leary and his fine wife Murnie and family of two growing boys. Steve is hard at work as a manufacturers' representative. Equally hardworking is DickSammis who nonetheless reports that he has finally broken 80. John and June Larson are living in Ellington, Conn., working with the State's Dept. of Commerce in the division concerned with economic development planning.
Rhode Island residents include Steve Leslie, who is married and teaching at St. George's School in Newport, and Mark Lewis who, after two years of internship and residency at U. Conn., is now into dermatology at Brown. "Hey, Pfeifer - neighbors, right?" concludes Mark. Al Kibbe has recently become a neighbor of mine (almost) by moving to Greenwich, Conn., after two years in Kansas City, Mo. Al has been appointed an assistant prof, at the State University of N.Y.'s campus at Purchase. Al says he is still single but considering.
Steve Marantz reports that he is "married to Michele, father of Jessica, another one on the way." Classmates interested in slidetapes, filmstrip, or any audio-visual programs can now order them through Marantz Media, Inc. which is based in Holyoke, Mass. Pete Stone was married to Patti Schofield (Russell Sage '72) in August 1974, and the couple are now living in Potsdam, N.Y., where Pete is in the construction business. Patti teaches elementary school. Dick and Karen Whitney invite any classmates who find themselves in the vicinity of Milton, Mass., just outside Boston, to give them a call. Dick is now a senior resident in medicine at Boston University Hospital.
Hope to have further jottings from those who make it to some of the other games. Needless to say, you don't have to get to a football game in order to have your quips published.
