When June appears on the calendar page, many college graduates are apt to have memory visits to their own Commencements. The general atmosphere of these occasions seems not to have changed much, although there are numerous alterations in many details.

Some institutions have found it desirable to eliminate the most personal aspect of the final day, that one short moment which has given a real thrill to the parents who had come long miles to witness the climax. Of course this came at the moment when the brightly-gowned official head of the college personally handed a diploma to that special figure in front of him.

There is no special feeling when the degrees are conferred "en masse."

Our own Commencement was a small affair compared with those of today. There were 133 Bachelors degrees, the A.B. to 79, the B.L. to 24, and the B.S. to 30. Of the entire number, practically one-third came from New Hampshire, and only 15 were from outside the New England States.

1902 SALUTES 1976.
