Although our distinguished classmate Hon.Louis S. Cox, former judge of the Supreme Court of Massachusetts, has been retired from the bench for some ten years, he has recently completed a most important task.

In December 1954 Governor Herter appointed a commission consisting of fourteen lawyers and fourteen laymen "to make a complete study of the entire judicial system" of Massachusetts. He named Hon. Louis S. Cox chairman. The list contained some of the foremost legal, business, editorial and religious lights in the State. The commission completed its work early in February and filed its report with Governor Herter, who has transmitted it to the Legislature recommending its adoption.

The outstanding recommendations are:

The appointment of an administrative officer by the Supreme Judicial Court, that court to have administrative supervision of all courts in the State; a reorganization of the District Courts with all full-time judges and somewhat drastic attacks upon the congested dockets of the Superior Court; no pensions for judges unless they retire at the age of 70 years. There are many other recommendations.

The newspapers gave the report of the commission full and favorable comment.

So we will award an Oscar to our classmate Hon. Louis S. Cox, for an outstanding and much needed job well done.
