All American halfback Dave Morey had a birthday on February 25, his 86th. On that day he crossed over from his home on Martha's Vineyard Island to Falmouth, Mass., and was met there by a group of old Bates College football players who had been coached by Dave. They took him to lunch at a fine restaurant to help celebrate the occasion. Dave was so emotionally affected by it all that when he was called upon for a speech he choked up and later admitted he "fumbled the ball" - (one of the few times in his career). It is interesting to recall that in addition to his outstanding performances in football he was a star pitcher on the varsity baseball team - (captain in 1913) and upon graduating in 1913 joined Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics.

Some 1913 history from the December 1963 Newsletter - Clayton Fairbanks, editor: " 'All American Treasurer.' That is Bill Towler's title for Bob Conant. Did any of you ever get a bill for class dues without a little personal greeting? You should see the replies that go back to Bob with checks. His salary as treasurer is not too large but his dividends in satisfaction must be enormous. Salute All American! - A thoughtful secretary sent word along via Warde about a testimonial luncheon for Bill Towler on his 25th anniversary with Town and Country. - In all the notes I have had from Bill he never mentioned it - Hiding his light. - It's Grandpa Satchel McClary again. This time another bouncing boy named Andrew McClary Paul for Andrew McClary '16. - Harv says he hopes these young uns are smart enough to get into Dartmouth. - Eddie Edwards' citrus grove was hit by the freeze but he is back in business again. - Steve Perry's son Pete S. has completed work on his Ph.D. and is located at the V.A. Hospital in Denver. Speech therapy is his forte. - MoseLinscott, not satisfied with playing tennis at the 50th, climbed Mt. Washington in August, had four witnesses and swears there's still life in the old goat. - Parker Trowbridge has retired from Paine Webber, Jackson and Curtis and is now rusticating at 30 Clarke Road, Barrington, R.I. - Pat Maloney back in Venice, Florida for the winter and expecting a visit from his 100-year- old father. - Any other 13ers have living parents? - Dave Morey nominated for football Hall of Fame. At last reports he was going back to another reunion with his 1923 Middlebury team which tied Harvard 6-6. - Fred Page and Harry French made their annual trip afield on a bird hunting expedition but report game scarce due to drought in the North Country."

Two classmates live in Canada but for good reason seldom, if ever, see each other. Vic Dunbar lives in Nova Scotia and Ed Stiles lives in British Columbia.

Vic and his son Donald are planning to sell the 100-acre Sunset Farm in Bras d'Or and have bought a home with seven acres of land overlooking Lake d'Or which is much nearer to Sydney where Donald is on the faculty of the College of Cape Breton. It is interesting to note that both Vic and Donald have attended Alumni College for the past six years and have made reservations again for this year. They both feel Alumni College is "more than worthwhile."

Ed Stiles' fine letter of January 30th was published in the March issue of Tower Tidings and told of his antecedents and career. A subsequent letter tells of his talented family - two sons, two daughters and ten grandchildren "spread all over" and all are ski enthusiasts. Bill, the older son, is a supervisor at a concentrator at Endako in interior British Columbia. His wife is an expert fancy skater. Inez, the older daughter, is married to an Englishman and lives near Melbourne, Australia. Peter, the younger son is a mineral engineer who operates a big lime quarry on Texada Island. Ruth, the younger daughter, is a BA graduate of Queens College in Kingston, Ont., married and living in Spokane, Wash., with their two sons. Her husband is a doctor and she is now a medical technician in a local hospital. Ed says he would like to go to some of the Old Timers doings but is prevented by his many deficiences and feels he is lucky to be able to see, hear, and write.
