The late Dr. Harry T. French whose obituary was published in the October ALUMNI MAGAZINE will be remembered with deep respect and affection by many of his classmates but especially by Fred Page, Bob Conant, and BillTerry, with whom he played four-handed cribbage over the years whenever Bill was in Hanover. In retirement years, Harry and Fred spent many happy days together in the fields and woods of Grafton County on game hunting and bird watching expeditions. In a letter to us shortly after Harry's death, Bill Terry wrote as follows: "As you probably know, Harry and I had been close friends since freshman days and when Elizabeth [French] was at McGill University in Montreal we made the connecting link with her home ties. I appreciate her writing me so often. . Harry was an ardent fly fisherman and took me up to a club he belonged to and we fished for trout. He and Fred Page made a regular trip for many years to the upper reaches of a good salmon river in New Brunswick, and in the fall they were usually able to fill their lockers with deer meat. So he had other pleasures than teaching or taking care of his practice - in other words, he was a well-rounded individual."
William E. Sides '40, son of Ed and FlorenceSides, who works for the Bridgeport Brass Corporation, was recently promoted to Director of Manufacturing with responsibility for the manufacturing functions of the company brass mills in Indianapolis, Bridgeport, and Seymour. Many Dartmouth men will remember Bill during the three years he was at Dartmouth before he left to graduate from Clarke University as an industrial engineer. He also attended our 60th reunion with his father. Bill lives in Southport, Conn., where he is former chairman of the board of trustees and deacon of the Southport Congrational Church. He is also former director of the Lower Naugatuck Valley Chamber of Commerce, director of Bridgeport Savings and Loan Association, and a director of Naugatuck Valley Industrial Council.
