Dear '73s—

What a fitting tribute it is to be able to close out this academic year with plenty of choice tidbits from afar! Thanks to the recent Class Officers' Weekend and a few loyal letters, your man at the helm can proceed full speed ahead.

Let me first preface my thoughts with a little word of thanks to John Hauge (now a full-time American student at Harvard Business), JimSullivan (presently toiling on Wall Street with municipal obligations), Pete Smith (still the apparent tennis king-of-the-hill), Kevin O'Shea (a most enthusiastic, overwhelmed, underestimated - gullible? - reunion chairman), and self-appointed executive committee member Brad Little (who could be heard mumbling, "I get seasick when I read the Captain's tidings") for their undivided interest in helping the Class grow these past few years. They have been (and will continue to be) very instrumental in the formation of class affairs, as I hope your support will be there as well in the ensuing months.

If you haven't already noticed, big plans are presently being made for a mini class reunion to take place on Harvard football weekend - this year in Hanover, October 16. Further details about this gala event will be forthcoming in the fall issues of the Magazine and class newsletter. Please plan on attending; for this get-together may very well be the first and last of its kind until June of 1978!

As for the news, Steve Stetson is reported to be eating well off of his wife Sue as an assistant football coach at UNH. Seems Sue's chocolate chip cookies are a smashing success with '73 drop-ins (attested by the somewhat zitty-faced individual with whom I chatted) . . . while BobLindgren and John Bates mark time at American Can and Gillette, respectively. Rumor has it that if all goes well for JimEdgeworth, he may make it big in semi-professional hockey one of these days soon.

Old time Ripley Reltney Larry Roberts is gainfully employed at one of Boston's four billion dollar banks (any guesses?) in a somewhat responsible capacity as a genuine commercial lender. It probably goes without saying that old "Lar" has redefined his act since the days of yesteryear. Another Reltney, GeorgeBayrd, is peddling life insurance and otherwise living happily in Minnesota with his spouse Mary and a rather hot dog Volkswagen Sirocco.

Mike Neary is working for a hotel chain out of San Francisco and appears to be biding his time, while Bobby Smith is still at the grind, working for a MBA at Wharton after a brief managerial stint for MONY in NYC. And if you can believe it, Bill ("Stick") Graulty is charming the daylights out of the airwaves in the Pittsfield, Mass., area.

At last report, Elliott Kofoed was completely circumnavigating Lake Titicara near Lima (and quoted as saying, "a feat considering the road on the Puerta Acosta side is almost nonexistent"). It seems Elliott and his trusty 1964 125 CC Vespa scooter have plans to complete an entire tour of Central and South America by summer's end: "Believe it or not - I swear it's true - in Quito, a friend bought some fruit in the market which was wrapped in a page of a DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE More miraculously still, on the four pages were a few inches of Cap'n Quigs' notes. Strike me dead if that really didn't happen!"

A geothermal energy report presented by Montana State University graduate student EricStruhsacker received the Best Student Paper Award at the recent Rocky Mountain section meeting of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) in Billings. As a member of the Class, Eric was an avid DOC member and Ski Team participant, and quite obviously partial to G & T "on the rocks."

As a final footnote, although not "officially" a member of the Class, Sam Averiett II, a year. long exchange student at Dartmouth, has been appointed an administrator of public relations at ITT World Communications, Inc in NYC. Sam has B.A. from Tallegda, an M.S. in journalism from Columbia, and is a former reporter for The Washington Post and the San Francisco Examiner. So all you job hunters know where the action is.

Interim statement # 10 (dated April 30) shows the Class at a participation index of 32 per cent for the Fund - with over $8,100 pledged (close to $3,300 more than any other Group VIII Green Derby Class). With such progress, the Class is to be highly commended. Let's keep that participation figure high!

Best wishes for the summer months. Please keep in touch, and jot down on your calendar that all important date of October 16. Over and out . . .
