A call for help! MAY DAY! MAY DAY!
'73s . . . that time of the season is upon us again. The Alumni Fund needs our assistance — both monetarily as well as participatorily (be there such a term). As you well know, last year's record-setting class involvement will be a difficult challenge to meet, but, then again, we all mastered coeducation, didn't we? Please don't let the Cap'n down. He wouldn't be able to fathom the thought of a weak showing. Give us what time and money you can spare, and remember: the ship that stays together, floats.
News this month is a bit sparse, but a welcome respite for this weary scribe. People must either be cramming for exams, spring cleaning, or just frolicking in the sun - as it all should be. Nevertheless, the Cap'n's been steady at the helm! Try these whereabouts on for size: Word has been received that George Kidder may be on the lookout for new employment ... or perhaps contemplating grad school. John Standish's making waves as a professional musician, playing at several night spots in New York City. And William Bagley has begun basic flight training at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla.
Ran into a not-so-familiar face one day while peddling wares at UVa. Seems Tom Helfrich's literally running around in circles over "J" Coyne, his newlywed wife, and that married life's treating him well while manning the ship in psychoeducational studies. Tom relays (a verb most appropriate in usage by a former track standout) that Reed Moran really knew what he was doing when he finally joined hands with Kathy Carlson. That's to say that he's now - officially - a bona fide member of the Carlson Chasing Team, noted for its quick draws and easy victories. Tom also states that Holgar Liepmann's alive and well and loving it at Stanford Business. I should be so lucky as to run (afoul) into another mate while on leave ... such is the life of a sailor!
The engagement of Miss Sylvia Carol Bam (Smith '73) to Mark Logan has been announced. Both plan to reside in the Hanover area, where Mark will work at Mary Hitchcock, and Sylvia with the Dartmouth Printing Company.
On a more astonishing note - this month's MAN OF THE MINUTE - is the recent marriage intention of one, Tom Beckmann. Rumor has it that Mr. Beckmann will not only relinquish his credentials as a one-time ripping Ripley-Raider, but also receive "undue" royal treatment from the Fearsome Foursome (who resent such undertakings) come reception-time. Captain's advice: stay clear of the deck.
Well, that's all I've been able to muster for the month. Keep me in mind when anything unusual happens. In the meantime, the Captain's conveniently cuddling-up into his corner. Tally Ho!
