Hard to believe though it may be, our first official class reunion is a mere four years away. What may be harder to believe is that our reunion will follow the graduation of the Class of 1980. What does that have to do with anything? Simply to point out, in a backwards way, that it's been a full year since our class graduated and that, as the sages have always declared, "tempus does fugit."

Although Apartment A is not exactly overflowing with letters from classmates (it's overflowing with dirty laundry because the cockroaches have gone on strike) mail has been good in the past few weeks. Hal Macartney and MikePeters are living well in Alaska using Anchorage as home base. They have graduated from welders and are currently employed on oil rigs in Prudoe Bay and the North Slope. Hal has been seen peddling small bottles of crude oil in the "Union Club" where he and Peters have set up charge accounts. Dick Ellsworth '74, currently running for mayor of Anchorage, plans to sponsor a Macartney-Peters dog sled team in next year's 1,049-mile dog sled race from Anchorage to Nome. The team plans to be in Hanover for graduation.

Rick "Pud" Pummill is still in the insurance business. He tired of working for "one of those radical west-coast based firms (Pacific Mutual) so returned to the East with none other than New England Mutual." Pud's boss is a Dartmouth '46 Beta which, as he states, enforces "the old Dartmouth adage: Either a doctor, lawyer, or insurance agent." I think that lost something in the translation.

Pam Brewer is a sales assistant with the Philadelphia branch of Salomon Brothers (a corporate investment and stock brokerage firm). Laurie Keeshan has been working as a secretary to six CBS News network correspondents: Richard C. Hottelet, Charles Osgood, David Culhane, Dallas Townsend, Reid Collins, and Jerry Landay. Laurie writes, "Being employed is a traumatic experience for me, but I love the '9-5' world."

Radu Tenenbaum writes, "I'm still at Dartmouth and will graduate in June of '76. Better late than never. Plan to go to Thayer School for at least another year after that." Mike Sites is "muddling through Property, Torts, etc. at the New England School of Law."

Another muddler is Bob Sullivan who has, by now, finished up the year at B.U. School of Journalism, with "his usual academic fervor." Sully writes, "The '75s I've been in touch with are well. Pete Gross is back at the books after enjoying an excellently ridiculous Carnival with Artie Beaver and myself. Only Heorot's champagne brunch could pull us away from a Sunday morning Hal's run. The chili is still hot at the Tally. Joe "Hooter" Yastrow is matching horns with Texas steers at SMU."

Michael Sandoe is proud to let people know "his eight-month-old son is doing well and starting to walk." Due to a lag in my receiving Mike's card I must add that his eight-month-old son will be considerably older when this article is published. In fact, he will be entering the fifth grade in September.

The time lag strikes again. Robin Felix (address currently unknown) sent the following note from Asheville, N.C.: "The trip to N.C. was the first leg of a grand 2½ week tour up the East Coast. Camping in the Great Smokies, visiting friends in Pa., Ma., R.I., Ct., and N.H., and then more camping in the White Mountains is my goal, if I have time; freedom is superb and I deserve as much as I can get before I report to boot camp on April 29. That's right, I m joining the Navy, or rather, have joined. I'll be in the nuclear program, probably on a sub, for six years and possibly more if the life is congenial."

After a short period of unemployment, Mark Jones reports that "finally Data Protective Service recognized my merit and hired me as a fulltime security guard. My job consists of driving a mail truck and although I don't have a gun, I do have a full uniform with a hat and two silver badges. Amidst all the confusion I have been accepted into law school at the State University of New York at Buffalo and will be starting in September."

Mike Gennaco's high school teaching in Phoenix, Arizona, has been distracted somewhat by a Dartmouth woman who has forced him to spend a lot of time "soaking up the rays and playing beer pong."

After managing to steer clear of Dick's House for four years, AL Barstow succumbed to a ten-day "all-expenses-paid (insurance, thank God) knee operation." AL has been working as a research assistant in archaeology in Hanover and wrote that he had talked to Ed Spinney who, at the time, was planning to run in the Boston Marathon.

Class Treasurer Bob "Animal" Hittle has been found. 'Nimal was working for Birch Bayh's short-lived presidential campaign and is now a co-coordinator for Senator Vance Hartke's reelection campaign in Madison County. Animal is also coaching spring football at Ball State, umpiring baseball games, and trying to decide what to do next year.

Another class officer, Head Agent RickWaddell, who has done a superb job with the 1976 Alumni Fund, recently announced his engagement to classmate Cate Marlette. Yours truly received the long-awaited news from the happy couple a short time ago and 1 expect to be able to report some good stories about the September 4 wedding in Buffalo.

Finally, "Snow Top Hot Dogs," "Fish Fillet Divan," "Meat Loaf," "Tuna Casserole," "Tomato Meat Sauce," "Chow Mein," "Lasagna," and "Sweet Italian Sausage Bake" were recipes this starving bachelor received not from Julia Child, Graham Kerr, or even James Beard, but Kevin Kelley. Kel has been teaching in the Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass., school system. He's taught grades 1-12, "running the gauntlet of the educational experience." Additionally, Kevin was an assistant football coach, a basketball scrimmage dummy, and preseason pitching coach. He is now full-time golf coach.

Kevin recently ran into Mark Ditmar in Hanover and reports that Dits has a federal government job in western Mass., trying to find jobs for minorities, disabled persons, and ex offenders. Mark says his days are "filled with thrilling things like sitting at his desk, dialing the phone, throwing crumpled paper in thE wastebaskets, sitting at his desk, and sitting at his desk." As Kel puts it, "fortunately he's paless than Jerry Ford, so we're not paying two people the same amount to do the same things

Time to take the Sweet Italian Sausage Bake out of the oven. Maybe the cockroaches will this one and end their strike. I need a clean pair of socks. Have a good summer.
