It's been nearly a full year since the members of the Class of '75 gathered in front of Baker to receive their degrees and I wonder how many of us, after this year, wish we were still enrolled at Dartmouth. Many classmates have started careers, many have gone on to graduate school, and some have just gone on. In any event I'm sure all will agree that the first year out has been an interesting one.
News this month is fairly scarce due to the fact that everyone is writing checks for the Alumni Fund. Dave Dunbar is still working as a researcher for Reader's Digest book department. He writes, "I've started writing bird copy as well for the upcoming publication OutdoorsCanada. Last week 1 wrote a short essay on wood warblers, and this week it's vireos. Dull stuff."
One classmate who would rather be at Dartmouth is Tim Frey, who writes that "Law school is an unrelenting grind, but it does get better as you go along. You get up in the morning, go to classes, come back and study until 4 in the morning and then go to bed. Been to Hanover twice since September. I think I liked it better there."
Charles Frierson joined the ranks of the employed by getting a job in a local (Nashville) department store display department, making signs of all shapes, sizes, and colors. He anticipates going to art school in the future.
Cathy Strohm, now Cathy McDonald, after marrying Thomas McDonald (Yale '73, and Harvard Business School '75) is living in New York City and working for the Irving Trust Co. where her husband is also employed. Cathy indicates that things are interesting when Ivy League football rolls around.
Cliff Ennico sent me a long letter in which he outlined some of his activities during the past year. For six months he worked as a research librarian for the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx and an evening newscaster/ reporter for the Westchester-Rockland Newspapers, Inc., a chain of eight daily newspapers serving a readership of some two million people in southern New York state. He now writes five feature articles per week, including critical reviews of concerts, films, theater, and art exhibits. Cliff says, "I am still getting the same kind of 'fan mail' I used to get at Dartmouth He goes on to say "Have lost over 85 pounds and feel terrific now that I am down to a slim trim 180! Nobody recognizes me any more, arc with my reputation perhaps that's just as well"
Kevin McGillicuddy writes from Austin, Ter. as, "Now that I've been married about three months I guess I've waited long enough to in. form my classmates of the grand event. I would have written before, but I've been ah, er, on busy. Law school, you know. In attendance were a large number of Dartmouth men, considering the distance most had to travel to reach the scene of the crime, Houston. Jim MollenhoffBob King, and Neil Harrington '76 were groomsmen. Also attending were Bob 'Ninwl' Hittle, Carl Trout Williams, Pete Ed son '74 (cousin) and Dwight Edson 'l8 (grandfather), A good time was had by all, as evidenced by the fact that I have several good stories, but they would all be unprintable. Oh yeah, the blushing bride is Tish Wilson, of the Houston Wilsons Wah-Who?-Wah."
As I mentioned, news is scarce this month, so that's it. Please write and don't forget the Alum-ni Fund.
