JUNE 1977 GILBERT F. PALMER IV, FREDERICK H. WADDELL

Some of you may recall the October 1976 issue of the '75 class notes in which I spoke of the traditional fraternity composite being moved from its heralded position over the fireplace in the living room to other locations in the house. It is now June and this month marks our second anniversary since graduation. This means the fraternity composite is on its way up the stairs to its ultimate destination in the attic. "So what's the point?" you may ask. The subtle point of this symbolism is that we, as a Class, for the most part, are on our way. Our first reunion is a mere three years away.

Head Agent Rick Waddell has asked me to remind any of you who have not as yet made your contribution to the Alumni Fund to do so now. The last thing we want to do is lose to the Class of '76.

Rick offered several news items in our last conversation which I will share with you. BuzzCmaylo and Tom Nicholson are reportedly in Evanston, Ill., working for American Digital Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of NCR. They are selling electronic cash registers and liquor control systems. Liquor control must be a great and novel experience for them!

Also, Dave Cook has returned from Mexico where he had been working for the First National Bank of Chicago. He is once again located in the Windy City and apparently had a great time in Mexico.

Brian Kingsbury has been working in a management training program for Safeway Stores in Seattle, Wash. Brian reports that the "pay is good, Seattle is fairly interesting, but my bones are somewhat restless and I feel like becoming a student again in the not-too-distant future. 'B' School lies ahead 1 think." A trip to the Austrian Alps also lies ahead for Brian this fall.

Don Drakeman is at Columbia Law School along with Stu Cable (first year) and GaryGranik (third year). Gary will be working for a big Wall Street firm, Davis, Polk and Wardwell, next year. Don "teamed up with Steve Dietz '74 for a moot court, but was trounced by a Smithie and a Yalie." He will be working for the Morristown, N.J., firm of Pitney, Hardin, and Kipp this summer.

Steve Harper recently sent the following interesting note: "I decided to become a teacher of the T.M. program and spent some months at Maharishi International University and last spring associate teaching T.M. in Boulder, Colorado. In the summer I went to Europe to MIU there. We were in rented hotels in the French Alps at Avoriaz, a beautiful ski resort (in the winter). Gary Beane was on the course as well. In October I came home to Hinsdale where I've spent the past few months selling sporting goods and applying to 'B' schools for this fall. I'm going back to Europe in a few weeks to finish becoming a T.M. teacher. I plan to employ it in Organizational Development."

John Bartlett, after taking last year off to work in Boston, decided to return to Hanover for a fifth year in the B.E. program at Thayer School. One week following graduation this month, Jonn is marrying Pamela Rowland '77 in West Hartford, Conn. They may be in California or Boston next year depending on grad schools for Pam.

Word from Dave Beaty is that he is a grad student in geology at Cal. Tech and recently passed his Ph.D. qualifying exam. Dave writes that "Los Angeles is sure a lot different from Hanover in the winter; there are a lot more girls here and they wear fewer clothes."

Vernon Chadwick, after graduating from Dartmouth in June 1976, has done research for the city government of Jackson, Miss. He plans to continue his education in Staufen im Breisgau, West Germany, where he will study German, and at Christ Church, Oxford, where in October 1977 he will begin reading for an additional B.A. in English.

Due to the infamous time lag in publication of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, Lee Graham's note indicating that he will be graduating from Wharton in three weeks is a bit outdated and by now he has completed his course of study. Lee wrote that he had enjoyed Wharton, but after 18 years he is sick of school. The day after graduation he left for southern France for two and a half months and will return to work for Citibank in New York City in the Merchant Banking Group.

A. G. Rud has received a renewable, all-expenses fellowship from the School of Philosophy at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., to begin study this fall. He recently returned from eight weeks of study at the Goethe Institute in Germany and is now teaching and developing curricula at a psychoeducational learning clinic for adolescents with learning problems in Pittsfield, Mass. A. G. ran into Mark Ditmar a while back as he was taking a guitar lesson. I never knew they had subways in Pittsfield, Dits.

Joe Durham was at it again in April. Yours truly received a revealing post card bearing (the other spelling is also appropriate) the inscription "Florida, for Sun, Fun, and Beauty," which indicated that the good doctor was fooling around in the Sunshine State while on a break from med school. Joe has lined up a good job in surgery for the summer, doing what I'm not sure, but I doubt I'd want to know.

It seems as though everyone has been doing quite a bit of traveling lately, so I thought I'd mention a few of my recent trips. Florida, France, Belgium, Austria, Germany, etc., aren't all that great compared to my journeys. I recently went to New Britain, Conn.; stayed at a Holiday Inn in White River Junction, Vt.; visited Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y.; and had a beer in Chelmsford, Mass. My big trip will be at the end of the month when I go to Seymour, Ind. I defy anyone to top that line-up.

A couple of quick notes before I conclude: Mark Torinus is getting married to Maryclaire Krienke from Green Bay, Wise., on July 23 and Rick Jones is in Washington, D.C., and requests any classmates in the area to look him up.

This concludes year number two of the '75 class notes. Happy trails, all you wanderers, and have a good summer. See you in October.
