From all reports, the year 1958-59 will be the biggest by far for the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Long Island! The first Executive Committee meeting was held on September 10, and President Bud Hummel '42, outlined our course of action for the coming year.
High on the priority list is the Capital Gifts drive, now under way. Our Association is planning to help in every way possible. When a solicitor calls on you, please receive him kindly.
In May of 1958, your Long Island Association held one of its most successful dinners! The combination Awards Night and Welcoming Dinner for the new freshmen was so well received that a similar event is being planned for the spring of 1959. Work is already under way under the leadership of Ed Warnke '19. Three more Tomahawks, symbolic of our appreciation for work well done, will be presented to the immediate past president, and two other outstanding Men of Dartmouth, men such as Bob Blackman and Eddie Chamberlain '36 who received the awards last year.
Of primary concern at the moment is our treasury. Without support from the Long Island alumni as a whole, we have no chance of assisting the College in enrollment activities, nor can we plan for the social functions we desire. Dues notices are on their way now. Most of our members have been out of college for more than ten years. For them, dues will amount to $3.00 a year. For those out from five to ten years, the dues are $2.50 a year. And for them who recently entered this "wide, wide world", we want you to join so badly that we will let you get away for only $2.00 a year!
Those present at the last meeting of the Executive Committee included Art Keleher '54, Bob Jarbeau '36, Ted Girault, '27, Bud Hummel '42, Norm Falkin '47, Rudy Preuss '27, Ed Warnke '19, Don Walls '42, Jim Higgins '35, Jack Coulson '39, Turner Austin '53, Len Harrison '34, Walt Darby '39, Johnny Wolfe '32, Carl Buhler '25 and John Shaw '27.
