To complete Russ Beckwith's letter: "Betty and I still moving with a full head of steam except for arthritis drag. I'm active with golf, maintenance, sailing, and some consulting help for Jim. Plan to offer his services to Florida banks, colleges, and corporations when bored. Had a delightful evening at daughter Joan's place in Norwalk, Conn., with Chuck and Connie O'Neill last fall. Now anticipating our 50th to make come alive all the news you and BillWendell furnish."

This arrived out of the blue from Harry Reed: "This week while Dave Hewes was in Italy during a tour of Europe, he looked me up, and he and his wife Dorothy came to our Tuscan farmhouse for lunch. It was the first communication we had had with each other since the two years we roomed at Wheeler Hall. Two days later we met in Siena, and after a morning's sightseeing, had a long, leisurely lunch. A large part of these two days was spent catching up on the activities of a lifetime in our respective fields of psychotherapy and diplomacy. The pleasure of seeing an old friend after nearly fifty years was made even greater by meeting his wife, a lovely person, who, as a specialist in early childhood education with accomplishments that are legion, complements Dave's career in a remarkable way. Our visit was full of laughter and brought back many interesting memories of our days in Hanover."

Instead of writing about himself, PeteAkerlund sent this from the Phoenix Republic. " 'I thought I'd get out early and get ahead of the crowd, but by five o'clock Olive Avenue looked like Times Square.' said Doug Morris, Sun City civic leader.

" 'lt would be better to buy the grapes, but then you couldn't tell your children you were out there picking and then made raisins yourself,' he said. 'lt's a status thing for Sun Citians to come out here - like the pioneers who crossed the desert,' he added, mopping his brow." Pete added: "Doug is also a part-time instructor at the Glendale Community College and much in demand as a speaker at various civic organizations."

Marty Matteson replied: "Have been pretty much a stay-at-home this summer. However, did attend my high school 50th reunion in Morris, Ill. Thirty-one of the living 34 were in attendance - not a bad percentage. Had another short stay in New York City attending the National Convention of the Shriners. While there, we took the Circle Line cruise around Manhattan, and on the boat bumped into RalphMaynard. He was escorting two of his sisters-in-law from Norway on a day's sightseeing in and around the Big Apple."

Walt Douglas writes: "I am toasting my toes in a quiet retreat on the Kona coast trying to keep one eye on a granddaughter. The spring of 1971 I sold a block plant that I had been running for about 15 years and supposedly retired. After three days I went out and leased an office with nothing particular in mind, except to look around. I have ended up on the board of a small torque tool manufacturing company and also a smaller computer concern which is just getting off the ground.

"In the volunteer area I am kept busy on the board and committees of a local children's hospital and with a Navy scholarship foundation in a similar capacity. This keeps me busy but eliminates the "routine timeclock" existence. About the only classmate I see around here is Bob Blockson. We get together now and then for lunch."

From Bob Wallace: "Speedy and I missed the 45th reunion last year as we were just then in the midst of moving from our house to an apartment in Montclair, N.J. Incidentally, four months later Frank and Gwen Hodson moved into our same garden apartment group and are only a couple of doors from us. I am now in the fifth year of retirement, and we are thoroughly enjoying it. Spend approximately five months in Montclair and the balance of the year in Delray Beach, Fla., where we have a condominium (not a highrise) on the Intercoastal Waterway. We play golf in both areas, and I no longer worry about my handicap. Naturally, we see something of the sizeable Delray contingent during the course of the winter - Si Leach,John Goodwillie, Forsha Russell, Bob Oelman, and Sam Groves, as well as Tom Williams, who is just south of us. Enjoyed Dartmouth Horizons a year ago and have every hope of being at the 50th."

This from Bill Walsh: "We see our neighbors Frank and Alice McCord now and again, and it's good to report they are in fine fettle. We almost had Al and Anna B. Jones as guests on their way to Maine, but our geographical positions made the driving too difficult."
