Bax Ball wrote: "Barbara and I are off in January for a four-month trip through the Orient via the QE2. We'll be in Hawaii both before and after the trip. Back home in May. Can't beat retirement."

From Marie Benger in Naples, Fla.: "I had an invitation to join the Dartmouth Club here, which I'm going to do. Unfortunately, I will miss the first luncheon of the winter as I fly for Christmas to Philadelphia the day before."

Sam Child wrote: "Jill and I had a very interesting trip with a VW van, June to October. Two months touring England, North Wales, and Scotland and two months on the continent. It's a great way to meet people. Jill's fluent German and our college French helped a lot. We left the camper in England for another three-months' travel next May. We'll be here in New Hampshire for the winter. Now sawing and splitting cordwood."

Lucy Cogswell forwarded the following messages from class dues bills:

Bernie Boyle from Naples: "Been here five days, spending half the daylight hours cleaning out the jungle. Three months of heat and moisture produce abundant cellular plant growth."

Jim Cooley: "Just before my 70th birthday I got down to an 11 handicap, lowest for many years. Now since September 1 it's going up again. Is this the three-score-and-ten syndrome? Neither real estate sales nor data services yielding much income. May join the Florida gang."

Wes Dingman: "We fully intended to be at the reunion for the Cornell game. However, I had overlooked the fact that I had committed myself to leading a discussion at the annual meeting of the Massachusetts Federation of Planning Boards. I'm involved in too many things."

Jack Frisby: "Built a shed for garden, lawn, and snow appliances. Will probably be in Arkansas for November and in California for December."

Ed Hanauer: "Just returned home from a three-month hegira, exhausted physically and financially. Big news is that Sara and I, at our tender age, have at last earned the title of grandparents with the arrival of Elizabeth, enrolled in the class of 'OO. That both looks and sounds weird! Anyhow, to coin a cliche, it's never too late, and we are excited and happy."

Clif Harris: "I still work. I'm going to write a book on my mergers Economy Fuse toFederal Pacific to U.V. Industries to RelianceElectric to Exxon."

Ori Hobbs: "Sorry to miss Dartmouth Night weekend. Say hello to everyone for me. Have arrived in Florida for the winter and involvement in Dartmouth affairs in Sarasota. Have talked with Dick Henry already."

Al McLean: "Retired as of October 1. Will remain here in Falmouth, Maine, sailing, painting the house, and refinishing furniture."

Connie Williams: "It's been a frustrating year for Tom. We canceled out a trip to the United Kingdom to undergo a heart evaluation in Texas last spring. The result was an aortic valve replacement in October at the Miami Heart Institute. Progress since has been slow however he hopes to be up and around in another month."

John and Arlene McDonough: "On our way to Florida for the winter, but we did get to the Dartmouth-New Hampshire game. Talked with Al McLean, Spence Miller, Ward Thompson and wife, and Bernie Boyle and wife. Not many '31ers showed up."

Jim and Janet Frame wrote from the M/SRoyal Viking Sky: "We were in Los Angeles three days. Such a big city and zillions of cars! Luxuriating on this craft. It is much warmer as we approach Mazattan, Mexico. Through the canal next week, then Florida and home."

Anent the Conklin post-Yale-game party, Johnny Johnson wrote: " 'Fill the bowl up, fill the bowl up': Yale's, Eleazar's, or Poseidon's. Whichever, it was a nice omnium gatherum and good to see the gang."

Howie Mason wrote: "The old farm house nearly complete now. My business venture is buying and selling used books. Healthy, happy, busy. We enjoyed the class reunion at the Cornell game and its attendant activities."

John Milos phoned November 19 in response to our letter, but he had no news to report.

Charlie Schneider wrote: "Have been sticking close to home and our golf club this year except for a nice visit-to Katherine's brother and her hometown, Davenport, lowa, in late October and early November."

From Fred and Ruth Slaughter: "January 2 we fly off for three months in New Zealand, Australia, and a six-week freighter voyage from Fremantle to Vancouver."

Ed and Carol Studwell wrote: "Florida Chamber of Commerce demands a retraction. Okays my inference New Zealand has more to offer a restless mortal. Right now with sun and golf you can't beat Florida."

Bill Wilson is going back to work at C.I.T. for a short while, then in May he and Edna are off on a Dartmouth Alumni Cruise.

Thanks for your Christmas cards.
