Classmates . . . This month your secretary will take some literary license by not writing about you, but about the crisis at the College arising from the most recent Dartmouth Review episode—the Mein Kampf quote in its masthead, followed by a rash of publicity that can have nothing but the most negative impact upon the College's reputation at the high school level and among prospective minority applicants. "20/20"'s coverage ot the event and Professor Cole was horrendous. I have been active as the District Enrollment Director in my area for many years, and we can not in the long term compete with this type of publicity. My basis for saying so is that the message that Dartmouth is not a comfortable or amenable place for minorities such as Jews, blacks and women—appears to me to be the Great Lie which the Review has fostered. I was in Hanover with my daughter Nicole 93 at the Hillel house the night that the Dartmouth Review issue was passed out at Kol Nidre services on the Jewish new year. I understand from her experience the love and commitment which she and her friends, and others of the minorities she represents, have for Dartmouth, and the comfort they feel there. It is that message which the public should and must get if Dartmouth and its pre-eminence are to survive.

Next month, news from the class.
