This year's fall mini-reunion was held on September 17. A total of 26 classmates, along with assorted wives and children, enjoyed a pregame luncheon at Thompson Arena and then sat under ominous but mercifully dry skies as the Green took the measure of the Tigers in an agonizingly close contest. Those signing in at the luncheon were: Kilt Andrew, Ray Woolson, Hugh Brady, John French, Sonny Peters, Tom Byrne, Web Wilde, Gene Gerard, Jim Perkins, Tom Roulston, John Demas, Harry Ambrose, Nelson Nicholson, Frank Carlton, Lou Cavaliere, Tom Hughson, Warren Peterson, Joe Mathewson, Harry Lewis, Dave Conlan, Gerry O'Sullivan, Fred Darche, Gene Givens, Mike Gorton, and Bob Fanger.
Judging from the excellent turnout for this one-day bash, next year's weekend do in conjunction with the Yale game, with housing available at the soon-to-be-completed Sheraton Motor Inn, should be the social event of 1978. Watch your newsletter for details as to how to reserve space.
A recent feature article in the Washington Star financial pages, accompanied by a two-column picture of Pete Buhler, described Fidelity Group's Contrafund. Pete, a vice president for marketing and development for Fidelity, says the fund's name refers to its "contrary opinion" investmant approach, buying shares of companies its managers think are priced below value because of being out of favor. We've been buying the same kind of equities for years, even before they go out of favor. Like so many things in life, timing is everything!
Dick Frieder reports that all is well with his family (three children) and with his business and that he recently spent a weekend with RonSchreiber and Larry Kretchmar.
Frank Tepper writes that he has forsaken life in the sunbelt and has moved his family to Winter Harbor, Maine - about as far from Florida as one can get. Frank is practicing law in Ellsworth, Maine, and looking forward to a winter of snow. (Obviously, he is suffering from sunstroke.)
Jim Alexander reports from his post in the History Department of the University of Georgia that he spent the spring quarter as visiting professor of medieval history at the University of California at Santa Barbara. For the past two years Jim has been an assistant coach of the U. Ga. lacrosse team, which last year won the Southeastern League championship. He is off for the fall quarter and is finishing a biography of Ranulf III, Earl of Chester and Lincoln. (Probably won't be serialized in Playboy!)
Luis Torroella's widow reports that their daughter Cynthia graduated cum laude from Dartmouth last June. Luis, who was killed by the Castro regime, would have been very proud had he lived to witness the graduation.
Chet Gale has moved from Atlanta to Rochester, N.Y. Glenn Wilson visited TuckCreamer over the summer, and Frank Chase reports that he was double-teamed during the alumni fund drive by what he refers to as a "Gorton-Goss Goosing." That exhausts all the news. Anything further would be fiction, so do something important and tell us about it before next month's deadline!
