Fred Byrd has feathered the ALUMNI MAGAZINE nest with a short epistle. "I am still a reporter for the Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J.," Fred reports. "However, my main interest is, again, art. I've had two exhibits recently - one a one-man show at the Nutley Museum in Nutley, N.J., and the other a regional show at the Art Center of New Jersey in East Orange. I won an award for a drawing I had done at Dartmouth at the Art Center of New Jersey show."

"I am also a member of Operation PUSH (People United to Save Humanity) and tutor each week as my contribution to the organization," Fred continues.

"That's not much to write about, but it's something."

Bill Rollings relates that he teaches at the Potomac School in McLean, Va., where he has labored for seven long years. Bill married Kim Castro about five years ago and he sired young Jeffrey about two years past. Bill informs that Charlie Hodgson is teaching swimming with the AAU team in Miami and that Joe Serene,R.I.P., "was going to Finland for a while a year or two ago to do cold research."

Nelson Bright lights up this month's column with the news that he works as a developmental engineer at Compugraphic in Wilmington, Mass. Compugraphic manufacturers typesetting equipment. Nelson is married. He also reveals that his brother Arthur works for Union Carbide outside Cleveland. Arthur has a daughter and another in the pipeline.

Ben Romney reports that he has established himself for the time being as a medical practitioner in Madison, Wise. However, he intends to return to the staff at the University of Wisconsin, where a certain friend of the feminine gender is a pediatric intern.

Finally, what would this space be like without a few wedding announcements? First, the New York Times reports that Deborah Farr Steigerwalt married Jim Safford on July 30. Debbie is an alumna of the Baldwin School and Connecticut College. She is presently studying for a M.B.A. degree at Temple University while working as a financial forecaster at Chase Econometrics in Bala-Cynwyd, Pa. Jim received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in modern European history from Cornell. He teaches at the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pa.

Second, Judy Kerr married Walter Sizer on July 9 in Westfield, Mass. Judy graduated from Western Maryland College and the Boston University School of Theology. Walter earned a master's degree from the University of Massachusetts and received a Ph.D. from the University of London.

Thirdly and (sigh) finally, Linda Knight Babcock will marry Ken Wilson. Linda graduated from the Oldfields School in Glencoe, Md., the University of Denver, and the Parsons School of Design. She is assistant to the director of creative services of Allied Graphic Arts. Ken is a member of the corporate finance department of Smith, Barney, Harris, Upham & Company. He earlier attended the Business School at Harvard and served with "Our Boys" as a lieutenant with the Fifth Special Forces Group in Vietnam.

Remember, there's a reunion next June. If you are interested in helping, give Norm Jacobs a call (617-887-5968) or write to him in Boxford, Mass.
