Since June will be the final month in our 1977 Alumni Fund campaign, I asked Andy Scarlett to send me his message to our classmates, class widows, and children and his plea for continued support to our class Alumni Fund. Andy has served loyally and effectively as our class agent for the Alumni Fund for nearly 50 years, and as a tribute to his dedicated service I know you all will contribute generously. Karen and I phoned Andy on his 88th birthday (St. Patrick's Day) to offer a birthday salute. His daughter Marjorie said he had had a good day, celebrating and posing for pictures, and so forth.
Andy's Message
"Last year 1910 gave the largest amount ever - even with our small number. This was possible because of the generosity of about 32 widows, sons, and daughters. Of course, we can't expect to keep going at this rate, but I hope we can continue to give large sums. The College needs it. A considerable amount of our gifts came from the income of 15 funds set up by deceased classmates. In all, we exceeded the amount given by any other veteran class. Some of our 32 members are ill and not able to contribute. I hope the rest will make up for them. 1910 is really doing a wonderful job. Our Alumni Fund performance was made possible by the generosity of three large donors - two alumni and one widow.
"We are fortunate to have Whit and KarenEastman to write the class notes for the ALUMNIMAGAZINE, and Art Lord is doing a wonderful job as editor of "Tenner Topics." We are fortunate to have lost only two classmates this past year - Brown Cooper and Horace Chadbourne. The wives of our classmates seem to outlive their husbands, and widows greatly outnumber the widowers. But several of us have to do without our helpmates. I find the winter in Maine hard to take, but I don't have to shovel snow. I live with my daughter Marjorie and have two fine nurses."
All living classmates please note: The Bth annual post 50-year reunion will be held June 13-15, 1977. I have not been able to contact any Tenners who plan to be in Hanover on those dates, except Larry Bankart, who spends the summer in Norwich. Since I cannot attend the class officers meeting in Hanover May 6 and 7, I have asked Larry Bankart to represent 1910 at these meetings, and he has agreed to do so.
Art Lord attended the Dartmouth Suncoast Alumni Annual Meeting with Paul Miner '18. The speaker was Peter Smith, Director of Hopkins Center. Art was impressed with the speaker's message, outlining the functional use of the center and the broad participation in the many activities.
