President, 3394 Dartmouth Lane Sarasota, Florida 33580
The Dartmouth Club of Sarasota finalized its formal year at the annual luncheon meeting at the Crown Restaurant on March 22, 1977 when the officers for the 1977-1978 year were elected. Don Hobbs '31 will be president, Bob Chittim'30 and Dick Henry '31 will serve as vice presidents, Dick Woodman '38 will be our new secretary, George Klein '28 will become treasurer and Sam Cunningham '33 will be assistant treasurer. Our speaker from Hanover was Peter Smith, director of the Hopkins Center. As all except two of the 90 members and guests present had graduated some years before the Center became a reality, it was indeed a pleasure to have a first-hand recital of its inception and layout and the programing of the 500 events taking place every year.
On October 26, 1976 we offered a double header at the Crown by having a fine talk by Pat Morrissey, laboratory manager of Mote Marine Laboratory, followed by a showing of the highlights of the 1975 football season. Our Wing-Ding Picnic, scheduled for November 30, 1976 at the Turtle Beach Pavilion on Siesta Key, met with the worst weather of the fall. An understanding superintendent made available a meeting room and what could have been a disaster turned out to be very much a fun evening.
Coach Jake Crouthamel visited us on January 14 and brought with him the highlights of the 1976 football season. Jake always draws a good crowd and this visit was no exception. Our regular mid-winter luncheon followed on January 25 at the Holiday Inn on Lido Beach and we were favored by the Changing Tides Chorus of Sarasota High School.
