Fall has sneaked upon us and summer's warmth has dissipated - but crisp days, football, foliage, and autumn sunsets are something to which we can look forward.

This past summer was a busy one for many of us, including Joel S. Mitchell Jr. who was married (for the first time, he carefully points out) on June 3 to the former Dorothy Eleanor Englisbee, known to her friends as Dee Dee.

Joel and Dee Dee were married in New Canaan, Conn., and are making their home in New York City where Joel is a partner in an educational publishing company.

Recently Joel had lunch with Myrna and BobSproull who stopped by in New York City on their way back to Aspen, Colo., following a vacation in Venice, Italy. Bob has opened up a new restaurant spot in Aspen called the Bandera where he hopes all visiting '57 skiers will look him up during the coming season.

Tacoma, Wash., businessman, Fred C. Shanaman Jr., has recently completed writing a book for young people which will be published as a paperback entitled 101 MoneymakingIdeas for Young Adults 10 to 18 years of Age. Fred claims the book will teach a young person how to start a project, price their product, earn from $1 to $1,000, participate in the free-enterprise system, promote the product, and find full-time summer employment. Under the administration of President Gerald Ford, Fred was regional representative for the U.S. Secretary of Commerce.

Bob McGuire has updated us on his campaign for a judgeship in Dallas, Tex. By the end of June, Bob had successfully weathered both a primary and a run-off election and is now the Democratic candidate who will run in the November election. Bob says he finds that running for office is an exciting experience with many ups and downs, and is glad he has the able assistance of a couple of other Dartmouth grads, Doug Riley '47 as campaign treasurer, and Don Swanson '54, campaign steering committee member.

Erich Kunzel continued to build his fame this summer as he conducted the Boston Pops Orchestra, which many feel is the tops in this country if not the world.

Stuart V. Smith Jr., president of Dartmouth Printing Co., and David C. Hewitt '64, executive vice president, have recently purchased their company from South Shore Publishing. Dartmouth Printing Co. has been part of the Hanover scene for 135 years and currently employs approximately 150 Upper Valley residents and produces more than 50 medical, technical, and trade magazines for publishers located throughout the East. One of these is the Dartmouth ALUMNI MAGAZINE.

The secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Japan reports that the club recently held a farewell party for Bill Breer and Peggy who are returning to the United States after completing Bill's third tour in Japan, this time as first secretary of our embassy in Tokyo. I

The club's president. Chic Igaya, |ias just been made president of American Home Insurance Company of Japan and a director of the parent firm in New York, after a most successful career with their affiliate American International Underwriters.
