just back from Class Officers Weekend, which was most stimulating. Rog Allen will be reporting more fully in the "Mint Bag," but herewith some highlights.
Attending were: Mutt Ray, Ben Doran, Rog Allen, Frank Robin, Fran Fenn, Bib Bankart, and assorted wives. Tom Nast was chairing a personal meeting elsewhere. We learned that partial plans of The Campaign for Dartmouth include tearing down the newer wooden section of Crosby Hall (leaving the original brick part built in 1810) and adding to that an extensive building to house alumni administration offices. Particularly, there will be an alumni lounge, long needed, that we grads can use for meetings, messages, etc. The museum will get the axe to allow extension of Hopkins Center. Webster will be converted, possibly to classroom use.
Grant and Phyllis Crane's son Charley has officially been accepted for next fall and will be our very own class scholarship recipient. We are delighted the Class has supported this program (with your five bucks added to dues), which now stands at $15,000 toward the goal of $25,000, having added $4,000 this last year.
The cost of the MAGAZINE is going up again next year, meaning that our ten-dollar dues will net only four for our treasurer, but six bucks a head for the MAGAZINE (rated tops in the League) seems reasonable. No decision will be made about what to do about dues until fall meeting, and besides, we want to surprise Tom Nast with this blockbuster just to watch him wince.
We have adopted two people. Many of you fall reunioners know Marion Bratesman, who spent much time with us, especially in the company of Rog Graves. She is director of promotion and publicity for Hopkins Center, has a Dartmouth son, and thinks we are the best class around. Since we agree, she is now one of us. Another woman who thinks the same about us is Patricia King, director of development for the Medical School. Three of our members serve on medical school boards - Sid Lansburgh, Sey Ochsner, and Colin MacCarty - so she will be in good company.
Fall reunion is October 13-15, Yale game. Plans are the same 30 rooms at HoJo's, and we hope they include some underwater movies shot by Ruth and Gene Jones during their worldwide scuba diving. Ben Doran is in charge of the weekend, and you will all be receiving further information via "Mint Bag" releases.
Liz and Lem Bowen, Lee and Russ Stearns, and Beth and Jud Smith joined us at Fenn's Hilltop for festivities winding up the weekend Saturday night. And lest you think this weekend is all fun and roses, it's a constant diet of business meetings, including our class meeting, which stretched out almost three hours.
A nice note from Don Albertsen says he is getting along well following his leg amputation. He is now down to one crutch but heading for none eventually. He continues to take groups to the Orient as always but will wind that down soon to personal trips for himself and Lillian. They moved to 3674 Rossmoor Parkway #8, Walnut Creek, Calif. 94595.
And now us. Katie and Bib flew to San Diego in March for over two weeks of visiting with our younger son and family but especially that 15-month-old grandson, who now insists on calling me "Dada." Naturally, a happier or more handsome sprite (Class of '92) you never saw. We drove to Los Angeles to see the sights we missed last year, including a Merv Griffin taping from the third row. The show was aired nationally April 15 - hope you saw us. Twilaand Frank Danzig had us for drinks at their super-lovely home on the mountain in Brentwood and then to a special French restaurant in Santa Monica. Quite a treat for us wooleys. Before we got there, they lost part of their rear lot to a mud slide that sounded pretty scary. We had Sammy and Connie Schuck to "our" house for lunch while babysitting for the young folks while they took a short vacation. We got some of those fancy avocados from the Schuck groves, which we are still portioning out to ourselves. We "almost teamed up with BudTeetzel, now retired in La Jolla, but there were conflicts in plans and time ran out, so we decided we'll just have to go back next year.
