Totting up Alumni Fund receipts on the Friday before Commencement, our erstwhile Crosby Hall neighbors told us that the 1978 annual giving drive had by then yielded $3.7 million in gifts and pledges toward a goal of $5 million. Just over 16,000 contributors had made possible the progress, which put this year's Fund about $200,000 ahead of last year's.

The 53.7 million Alumni Fund contributions were included in the $39 million in gifts and pledges which had been credited by Commencement weekend to the five-year, $l60-million Campaign for Dartmouth. Included in that sum were eight gifts of $1 million or more. Campaign leaders were looking forward to topping the $40-million target figure by the time the 1978 Alumni Fund comes to a close.
