I was very pleased with the response from the September edition of the "Fifty-Nine Line" class newsletter. What follows are some of the news items received. Do keep it up — drop me a note today with some news of yourself, a fellow classmate, or what is making Dartmouth news in your community.

Craig Harlan relates that during the past summer he visited two classmates. One was Bill Gumble, who has his own law practice in Pike County, Pa. Craig commented: "Bill's activities include coaching the Hawley, Pa., Little League team, in which his son Willie plays; wild turkey hunting (in season); and an occasional game of golf. But Bill's real talent is shooting darts, and I can attest to this as it cost me many beers at the local pub. I even managed to play a game of golf against Bill and his nephew, Ned Gumble '77." Craig also crossed paths with Earl Glazier, who, he said, has recently been reassigned by Citibank to Johannesburg from Singapore. "We spent a long evening in New York City last August swapping tales and bar-hopping. Fortunately we managed to stay out of trouble, which has to be attributable to either maturity, old age, or bad luck." As for Craig himself, he is vice president of marketing for Technical Materials Inc. in Lincoln, R.I., a specialty metals producer serving the electronics industry. He resides in nearby Barrington, R.I., with his wife Linda and children — Jennifer, 17, Geoff, 15, and Doug, 12. Craig's current Dartmouth activities include interviewing applicants and serving as vice president of the Rhode Island Alumni Association. Craig mentioned that he occasionally runs into Peter Jaffe and Dave Gavitt, both of whom live in the Providence area.

Pete Paxon also wrote that he is still in Lancaster, Pa., working for Ken Glass Inc. Unfortunately he could not make it to reunion, but fortunately the excuse.was a good one: a new family addition, David M. Paxon. We missed you, Pete, but congratulate you on your new son.

I also received several press clippings which contained news of various other classmates.

Barry Smith, who practices as a gynecologist and obstetrician on the clinical staff at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, was the featured speaker last June at an open Resolve Chapter meeting in Nashua. He talked about the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. Barry also teaches at the Dartmouth Medical School and is active in the Northeast Medical Ski Associa- tion.

Paul Green, a sociology professor at Salem, Mass., State College, was selected as tour coordinator and leader for 20 Americans on a three- week journey to China this past August. Paul had also spent three weeks in the spring of 1979 touring China with a select group of East Coast educators and professionals. The most recent trip itinerary included Manchuria and northern China, near the troubled Soviet border, where few visitors are permitted to travel. Other points of interest included Peking, Shanghai, and Canton, where the group toured agricultural com- munes, factories, schools, universities, and numerous cultural sites such as the Great Wall, the Ming Tombs, and the Forbidden City. This sounds like a trip we would all like to take one day.

Alan Robbins of Newton, Mass., has been named professor of radiology at Tufts University School of Medicine. Formerly, Alan was radiologist-in-chief at the Boston V.A. Medical Center. The author of more than 40 scientific papers, Alan has become a national figure across the country through lectures and scientific presentations detailing various aspects of radiology.

Jim Giddens, a partner in the New York law firm of Hughes, Hubbard, and Reed, has been active over the past few months in some extracurricular activities. Jim serves as a trustee of the village of Bronxville, N.Y., and has been leading a fight to prevent a savings bank from opening a branch in the heart of the village. Jim's wife Ginny is also active in community affairs, which she fits in around her full-time pursuit of a law degree.

That's it for now. Please don't fail me — drop me a line today with some news!
