John Vroundgos Nicholas reported that after having lived abroad in London and Zurich for 15 years, he recently returned to the United States with his wife, the former Dianna Zimmerman, a Colby Junior graduate; daughter Jillian, born in London in 1966; and son Jonathan, born in Zurich in 1969. After having completed training at the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich, John was in private practice as an analytical psychologist in London. He is now practicing in Marin County and noted that he would be happy to hear from any classmates, "sane or otherwise." John recently saw DavidViscott in "tinsel town," where, he says, Dave is working on yet another therapy book which it is rumoured MGM is turning into an epic motion picture.
I recently received Greenwich Research Associates' impressive annual report, which features Allan Munro, as executive vice president. Allan, who has played a key role in the building of this highly-successful organization, and his colleagues, enjoy the wise counsel of a blue-ribbon outside board of directors which includes Randy Malin, vice president of American Airlines. I was also interested to note that MikeHellman's sister Ann is field services manager for GRA.
Dave Allen was good enough to respond to my recent letter probing for class news. Dave commented as follows: "As it happens, you hit me at a pertinent point in time. On Saturday, October 13, I marry Polly Atchley Lord. Polly is a Wheaton College graduate and has a brother in the Dartmouth class of '63, so she has a longstanding relationship with the Green. As so often happens in these mature weddings, we merge a fair number of children. Polly has two girls, ages four and seven, to go with my tenyear-old boy and eight-year-old girl. The only confirmed '59 at the celebration is John Ferries, who, with his wife Donna, are nearly neighbours, living in Wilton, while we live in Weston, Conn. Our business, Marketing Corporation of America, continues to grow nicely across consulting, couponing, and MCA/ Graham Advertising Agency. The latest new business venture is a modest entry into the restaurant business- in the Philadelphia area called "The Bakers Garden" - fresh bread, homemade soup, unique entrees, and good beer and wine. So far, it's been standing room only. I'm afraid we'll miss the Yale game - that's wedding day. But we'll certainly try to get to Columbia. I hope we see you there."
A very exciting press release came through from the Perini Corporation, announcing that Barry R. Blake has been elected vice president and controller of the company. Barry has been with Perini, which is involved in construction, mining, and real estate activities, since 1972, having graduated from Tuck in 1960 and worked for Arthur Anderson and Company before joining Perini. Barry is active in the Massachusetts Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. Congratulations, Barry!
Our president, Jack Nason, wrote from Philadelphia that an extremely productive '59 class officers meeting was held on September 29 in New York City. Present, besides Jack, were Bill Colehower, Peter Jaffe, Van Pine, and Treasurer Andy Du Boff. Coming out of this meeting were the following items of note: DaveAllen, Stan Drazen, Peter Jaffe, and Van Pine were unanimously elected to the class executive committee; Bill Colehower's appointment as head agent, effective July 1, 1980, was unanimously confirmed (Bill will assist MikeHellman, who will continue as head agent through the 1980 Alumni Fund campaign, and will focus his efforts at this time on substantially increasing the number of assistant head agents); Peter Jaffe will continue as special gifts coordinator for our class during the next five years; and Van Pine will develop a class project and award and will make a final recommendation at the next meeting, scheduled for the spring of 1980. It was also determined that, in addition to obtaining a block of rooms for the DartmouthWilliam and Mary game in Williamsburg, Va., in October 1980, the class will get a block of rooms for the Dartmouth-Harvard game that same month in Hanover. Mike Hurd agreed to reserve the rooms in Williamsburg, and JackNason will coordinate with Barry Blake the arrangements for the Dartmouth-Harvard weekend. Andy Du Boff agreed to handle room reservations for classmates after this year's Dartmouth-Cornell game, which Barry handled.
Congratulations to Jack Nason for the fine job he is doing in keeping the spirit of 1959 bubbling forth!
