Jack Benson from Florida: "As you can see from the picture on the postcard, we're getting spoiled a bit by the highrises, but it's not as thick as the 'Gold Coast.' Weather has been good, although not the swimming kind yet. Annual Dartmouth dinner here Tuesday and expect to see Boyle, Purdy, Loveland, Holden, and McElroy."
We have written Bunny Bertram a couple of times about an article entitled "Bunny Bertram's Mountain Has Come a Long Way." His reply, dated April 12, reads: "I've had open heart surgery and a stroke so far this year, so I haven't seen or heard about the article in question." Old buddies, please write him. We'll send a copy of the article.
Red Gristede is busy preparing the big tenth reunion of Gristede Brothers Retirees and Old Thimers Society to be held on June 2. Ask BobTonis about the special Campbell's soup he received on his 70th birthday from the Red Baron. An article in the Haverhill Gazette of February 27, 1979, leads off with, "Presiding Central District Court Justice W. CliffordMcDonald is anxious to try retirement." Cliff and Sue left March 2 for Florida for four weeks. Cliff reached the mandatory retirement age on March 15.

George Nickum: "M.A. and I spent a relaxing six weeks in Palm Desert from the middle of February to the first of April. 1 was too busy to get over to San Diego, what with playing golf and tennis and enjoying the longest vacation I have taken since,I have been in business. We had beautiful weather and I played more golf in those six weeks than I have played in the last ten years. M.A. and I take off in mid-June for London, where I have a technical meeting."
Among newly acquired works at the National Gallery of Art is a five-foot-high Francis Bacon called "Study for a Running Dog." A blurred and ghostly dog trots along the gutter of a street. Painted in the 1950's, the Bacon is a gift of Ed Rhetts's widow and family in his memory.
In 1960 Bill Seney founded Wilson Seney, Inc. The firm conducts comprehensive four-day seminars on "Fundamentals of Finance and Accounting for the Non-financial Executive."
Knowing nothing of curling and being uncertain of Charlie Schneider's handwriting, we referred to the curling excellence of his group in our March column as so-so. Charlie writes: "80-80 curling excellence is really a very good rating. The rating refers to the percentage of shots that are executed effectively to the target called for by the skip, who is the leader of each team."
Bill Steck: "Cleveland, aside from being a laughing stock, is not a haven for '3lers, as it was when Hanover first beckoned. GeorgeFrankel, Walt Gehring, and I are the only ones left. Jack Frisby isn't too far away. The only real news I have is that in December JackWeisert remarried. His new wife llona is the widow of a colleague of Jack's who served with him in Beirut 18 years ago in the Foreign Service."
Beany Thorn: "For you skiers, just to make your mouths water (Do they still water as you approach 70?), my older daughter and her husband have a winterized cottage at Wilmington, next to Whiteface and 15 minutes or so from Placid. They won't let anyone use their cottage except old grandpa, so 1 was there for a week, with someone who is none of your business, and watched the best skiers in the world performing. That 90-meter jump is fascinating to watch. We watched much indoor practice Olympic skating too. Oh — for you auslanders who don't realize what I am reporting, these were the pre-Olympics at Placid.
"Currently, I am busy showing my slides of the China safari of last November. Twelve showings so far, including four this week, before Lions, Rotary, schools and golden agers. I enjoy trying to educate people on what is going on around the world."
Harriet Wolff: "My trip to Arizona was not particularly newsworthy because the ice and snow kept me from visiting. Shep's brother and wife retired to Sedona, which is in the Oak Creek Canyon, about 28 miles south of Flagstaff. Beautiful country! I did have a delightful luncheon with Dick and PegHolbrook. They braved the weather and drove over the mountains from their home in Prescott. This weekend Frank and Gwen Hodson are in Hanover. They are looking for a summer rental in the area."
Have a good summer!
