As we head off into the summer recess, don't forget to make your plans now for the several mini-reunions we are holding this fall. The big weekend will be "Dartmouth Night" in Hanover October 26 and 27. The game is Cornell. Make reservations at the Norwich Inn, which we have taken over completely, or the Sheraton Inn in West Lebanon.

October 13 there is a cocktail party at Sallieand Marty DeGennaro's in Woodbridge after the Yale Game. October 20 at Harvard there is a brunch before the game at Carol and KenSnell's. November 3 at Columbia there is a party after the game at Carol and Dick Kochman's. Brown comes to Hanover November 10 and cocktails after the game will be with Nancy andBill Johnson. More details will be published in the newsletter. We are looking forward to seeing everybody.

Fred Whittemore has been re-elected to a two year term as an industry governor of the American Stock Exchange. Fred is still a managing director at Morgan, Stanley & Company.

Toward the end of April Dartmouth held the annual Freshman Parents Weekend. Russ Cook reports seeing Scrib and Ann Fauver, BertMelcher, and Charlie Buchanan. The Cook's daughter, Missy, is a freshman. The College had a very interesting program according to Russ, plus it was a beautiful spring weekend. The Cook's moved up to East Thetford from Boston during the past year and enjoy it im- mensely. Russ is an investment advisor to individuals and conducts his business from an office in Hanover.

Bert Melcher also wrote about Parents Weekend. Dave Folger was there, and Bay Yee and his wife came all the way from Hawaii. If you remember from reunion, Bay has lost about 87 pounds since graduation. Jack Avril's daughter, Margaret '79, has been accepted to Harvard Law School.

Joan and Bernie Sudikoffs daughter Julie came within a hair of a New England championship in fencing back in March. She breezed into the finals with a 9-1 record in the preliminary round before loosing a fence-off against an MIT rival. Julie was also invited to an international tournament held in New York City in April. I think you all remember the outstanding job Julie did behind the bar last June in the reunion tent.

Jean Alexander Kemeny reports a beautiful spring in the Upper Valley. Her husband has been appointed by President Carter to head the commission investigating the Three Mile Island incident.

Tony Frank, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of United Financial Corporation of California has been involved most of the spring in the takeover by National Steel Corporation, the nation's third largest steel maker, in a cash deal valued at $243 million. Tony was quoted as saying "we didn't seek the merger, but we are employed to do the right thing for our shareholders." Apparently the offer was too good to refuse.

A late report from last fall. Dick Lena's son Rich was an all-state back from Amity high school in Connecticut. He has been recruited by a number of schools throughout the east.

Eifu Yamada writes that he is still basking in the afterglow of the wonderful 25th reunion in Hanover. He lives right in the middle of Tokyo and says that anyone coming through should stop by and give him a call. He is executive vice president and managing director of Toppan Printing Company.

Dan Woodward is a toy manufacturer in Montgomery, Vt. He also has been involved in state politics. At the end of March he resigned his seat in the Vermont House when most lawmakers bailed out of his movement to control government spending. For six months he had tried to convince the House to hold 1980 state spending to this year's level. The House approved an excessive budget so Dan packed his bags and went back to Montgomery. He felt the best thing to do was set an example of creative capitalism.

As President Kemeny has wound his way through Alumni Country this spring, he has been to one 1953-run affair after another. BillMcCarthy made the arrangements in Baltimore, Tim Thomas handled Philadelphia, Ron Scheman did Washington, D.C., and BertMelcher was in charge in Denver. I guess we have no end of social chairmen.

At Ron Lazar's suggestion we are trying something new this spring which should become an annual tradition. June 9, during commencement weekend, Pete and Heidi Spalding are hosting a Class cocktail party and dinner for all of the graduates and families of '53 who will be there. It will be in the Drake Room.

And so we say good-bye for a few months. Have a great summer. Please let us hear from you.
